Saturday was the first
"Official" DBD training ride. Affectionately called the "Get Acquainted" ride. It was pretty much an intro to the people who have registered to ride, as well as a reunion for ALC folks. A lot of the SF/Peninsula ALC'rs also do DBD.
The "get Acquainted" ride was a good starting intro to hills (32 miles, 1900 feet). It included 2 hills in the local area I had not climbed before. The most "frustrating?" one was the series of 4 climbs, with a nice plateau between each. I would get out of the saddle and push to the top of the climb, only to round a corner, or come out on the flat... and see look another climb just a little ways ahead. I did that 4 times! You would think I would learn not to push so hard on these kinds of short steeps. Still for a 250 foot climb, it had very impressive views. The road was called "La Cresta" and it did not disappoint.
Later the same day, I discovered my left saddle rail had been cut in 2. No idea if it happened on the 32 mile ride, or one the miscellaneous rides around town for errands.
