I didn't get accepted into the nursing program at Mt. Hood Community College.
And I was VERY upset when I was notified of such matters.
So much so that I didn't want to talk to anyone about it, hence me not posting anything about the process.
Speaking of which, this is the interview process. It starts with a bunch of people waiting in the waiting room. (10 people) Then they call you in, seat you, give you a heads up as to why you're there, do a roll call, etc. They hand every one a couple of pieces of paper, and on those pieces of paper are five questions. They then give everyone at the table 60 minutes to answer the five questions. Oh, and they're essay style. So you answer the questions, like, Why do you want to be a nurse and what makes you qualified to be in the program, or explain cultural sensitivity, or give us an explain how you'd diffuse a power struggle between two co-workers, or "If you caught your friend cheating, what would you do about it?"
Then after an hour, they come back in with a fishbowl with 10 slips of paper in it. You pull one out and it has a number on it. They go around the table, you introduce yourself, a very brief bit on why you want to be a nurse, and then you explain your answer to the question to the number on the slip you pulled out of the fishbowl. (that was quite possibly the worst sentence I've ever formed)
So my rejection letter came about a week or a week and a half ago. And when I received it, I couldn't help but think how much of a waste of time this has all been. This whole, pursing a degree in nursing kind of seems like a farce.
But then yesterday, I talked to three of my good school pals, Bill, Kirk, and Mel, and they told me about how they didn't get in either, and the one guy I totally thought would've gotten in, Kirk, was number 30 on the reserves list. For the record, that's #30 out of 30 total reserves. So when I talked to them, they told me how they thought this whole college thing had been a waste of time, and that resonated with me pretty well, and helped pull me out of my funk a little,(at least enough to post) knowing that's it's not just me down in this pit, but some of my good good school buddies too.
And then I went and saw Star Wars, and then I fought with Miah again, and then I went to sleep, and then I woke up, and then I finished my post
The End.
