DAY CAMP

1) I attended the following types of day camp as a child/teen:

a) Camps run by local public institutions (school district, community center, church, etc)
(Several types of art camps and a drop-in outdoorsy camp, all run by community centers or community colleges or something like that; I don't actually clearly remember)

2) Tell me anything you remember about your experience of this camp, in as much or as little detail as you see fit.
I enjoyed the art camps very much. I don't remember much about how it was run, but it was a pretty standard laid-back teaching atmosphere. The drop-in thing was less memorable, but I was also younger. We did various crafts and games and things like that. I mostly stopped going because I was doing other things -- family vacations or Girl Scout camp. It was all fun and I learned stuff, but I wasn't strongly attached to it.

SLEEPAWAY CAMP

1) I attended the following types of sleepaway camp as a child/teen:

a) Generalized outdoorsy camp, run by local branch of a national organization (Girl or Boy Scouts, YMCA, etc)
Girl Scout Camp -- a couple of years.

2) As in section 1, tell me as much as you remember and care to tell me about these camp experiences. If you went to both day and sleepaway camps, feel free to compare and contrast.
I didn't like Girl Scout camp all that much...mostly it was that I was there in middle school, which is always an awkward age. People were never mean to me or anything, but they were extroverted and loud and night and things like that which made it a bit difficult for me to fit in. The theme of the camp was usually something that I enjoyed -- I particularly liked the sailing one. The day camp worked better for me at that age because it didn't require trying to navigate social cues. I don't think going to CTY or something like that would have been any better, as I really was pathologically shy at that age and kind of freaked out when people tried to be friends because it was just such an unusual experience.

OTHER, CAMP-RELATED

1) Did you ever go back to work at the camp(s) you attended as a camper? Why or why not?

No -- I didn't feel any particular attachment to the art camps, and I had become bored with Girl Scouts. I also never really thought of counselor-type jobs as something I'd enjoy.

2) If you went to multiple camps, which was your favorite and why?

I liked the art day camps best, because it was fun, I learned a lot, and it was specifically focused on learning rather than socializing, making it ideal for me as a very shy kid.
