My constant comment's FUCK THIS!!
The first chapter of my thesis is gone. Saved wrong somehow. I think I know roughly when it happened, but that doesn't change the fact that it's thirteen pages gone poof into the ether.
The thing is due in two weeks. I write really, incredibly, slowly, on the best of days. There is no fucking way that I can recreate that chapter on top of the other two I have to do in that time frame. I can't beg the department for any amnesty either--they'll just ream me out for not backing things up, as well they should.
Anyone have any magical data recovery techniques? If you don't, I might as well stop daydreaming about graduation right now.
ETA--Any help from anyone who uses Ubuntu would be especially good about now. People keep telling me to take my computer to the help desk here, but I'm afraid they wouldn't know what to do with it.
