Having just had this conversation with two different people tonight (one on my f-list, one not), I figure I'd pose it to the rest of the world too ( Read more... )

1) Is it worth it to start driving stuff this summer?
sure! as the old cliche goes, everyone has to start somewhere. you may not think you've got enough time to accomplish much, but two months is better than nothing. plus when you get past the 'ohmygod, I'm controlling two tons of metal,' driving is really pretty fun, at least in a parking lot.
1a) New Jerseyites: What's your experience learning to drive in my lovely home state been like?
honestly, not that bad. a lot of it will depend on your relationship with the parent etc who you tend to drive beside, since the only way to learn is to do that regularly. but most of new jersey isn't half as bad as the parkway. stick to the quieter suburban roads and you're fine. also, the driving test in morris county is just a loop around a parking lot.
2) For anyone here who learned to drive during or after college: how and where did you learn?
n/a. but I'm pretty sure you could get a driving instructor to pick you up at bryn mawr. or find a patient friend with a car.
2a)For anyone current non-undergrads with no license and/or no car: how have you been managing wherever you live? Do you intend to get a license and/or car at any point?
I have to say, whenever I was at bryn mawr one of the things I missed most was my car. I 'managed' but I would rather have had a car, simply because even at its best, public transportation is inconvenient.
3) If not this summer, where when and how do I go about learning to drive?
I think I answered this above. but one thing to consider is that since you're probably a legal resident of new jersey even though you study in pennsylvania, it's probably way easier to learn in nj from a red tape standpoint.
