So I'm at work yesterday, sitting at our office assistant's desk trying to make time pass by faster.
I've been running into a bit of an issue lately with one of my (newer) coworkers. I've been at my job for two years total with a three month break recently at a substance abuse agency (which sent me running back to my old job). Me and this girl got along well when she first started; hell, I trained her. She even flirted alot with me, but I've realized that's her norm. I just kinda ignored the flirting as harmless b/c, well, she's married with kids. I've found out this is something of a thing with her.
Anyway, ever since I've come back, she's been a bitch on wheels. I found out that she thought something I said jokingly to a mutual friend of ours (acquaintance to me, suspected fuck buddy of hers) she took as gossip and that was the main reason she was being a bitch. This friend, a guy that's a security guard at the hospital, recently bum rushed me again fishing for gossip about her...but this time, I knew what was up and deflected him. The next day she was nice to me again, so I thought things had blown over. I know she's been spreading shit about everyone to everyone, including me, but I was willing to just look past it.
Wrong.
Yesterday at work, she comes into the office I was at and sits down. Another off-duty coworker of ours follows her in and we start chatting. Everyone that reads this knows I'm confused as all hell lately b/c I've had attractions to women in the past but am particularly hung up about a male ex. The male coworker grins at me and says he went to a psychiatric hospital for kids a couple days prior for a tour and was commenting on how the liaison there is "really hot." Here's the thing: I've genuinely had a thing for this woman for like two years...even my boss (who's (A) a lesbian and (B) knows my history) has jostled me about it. I really do think she's cute...so I said that.
My coworker takes that opportunity to, right in front of this other male coworker, says "Can I ask you a question?" I shouldn't of known what she was going to ask, but I did...didn't matter though. I was trapped.
Anyway, I say yes. She asks if I'm gay. I told her no. She kept pushing the issue. Even this male coworker, who has his head up her ass b/c she's been flirting with him nonstop lately (you guessed it! He's involved too. IS ANYONE FAITHFUL ANYMORE???), managest to stammer "Jeez, that's kinda personal." She says "I'm concerned about you." Anybody else, I'd buy it...but I'm convinced this woman is just fishing for more gossip.
After the male coworker left, the following exchange occurred:
Me: "So, you're concerned about me."
Her: "Yeah. I'm not the heartless bitch everyone thinks I am."
Me: "No one said you were, but there sure is something to be said for tact."
She got up kinda huffy and left. She was fine later, but I ended up calling my boss. Not to really make a personnel complaint, just b/c she and I are close lately talking about all this stuff. I didn't know how to handle it. She said just let it blow over, but if it becomes gossip, she's going to "handle it." Now she's pissed, which wasn't my intention.
Is it bad I feel a little good about it, though?
