I used to feel proud to be a paying user of LJ.
Now I feel embarrassed at least, and sometimes guilty.
That ain't right, yo. I don't like that I feel the need to feel that way.
This journal comes due in May. I can't decide whether I want to pay for it again, or whether my dissatisfaction is outweighing my "yeah, but I still want to use the services offered, so I'll put up with it" feeling yet.
Oh-man-I so-don't-want-to-give-these-up features:
1. ScrapBook. Numero uno (just for added emphasis). There is really no substitute without doing something complicated (e.g. Coppermine) on my own website, which was a fiasco the last time I tried. Flexible, taggable, doesn't use my own bandwidth, and I really like that you can reorganize howevever you like and it doesn't break links.
2. That
http://exampleusername.livejournal.com/security/group:groupname URL formatting that displays only posts within a certain custom filter when viewing a journal. Oy, did I ever want that for the longest time.
3. Lack of ads, although I use AdBlock anyway (I never see them on IJ), so maybe this isn't as big a deal as it could be.
Features of middling appeal to me:
1. Userpics. Although I already have more slots than I actually use (40/56, I think), having to squeeze down to just 6 would be a pain. Could live with ~25 maybe, but obviously that is not an option. (Having huge numbers of slots only leads to cruft, I find. I only have 66/100 slots filled on IJ and a good number are rarely used as it is.)
2. Editing post security en masse in the past. Have done this a couple times. Not sure how likely I am to do it in the future, but it's nice to have the option.
3. Styles/customizing. I think this style is currently Flexible Squares? Not sure without looking (and I'm not logged in as
starlightforest on the site at the moment). I do like Component, which is paid-only, and used it for a long time. But I would probably work out something I was satisfied with. I'm not one of those people who dolls up their journal to within an inch of its life; I just like it to be arranged tidily and readable.
Features I like, but could live without:
1. Comment editing. Got along without it for years; it's just handy.
2. Custom mood theme.
3. LJ address (starlightforest@).
4. Polls.
