Innes knew the knight was coming. The prince was never one for armor but he knew how to keep himself alive. He had simple armor on (as usual) as well as his bow. This was war. He'd defend Eirika with his life, if he had to.

As the prince kicked open the door, he kept his bow ready to draw, prepared in his hands. "Well well well," the prince sneered, smirking. "Looks like the kicked puppy's crawling back to his master to beg for forgiveness."

Seth tilted his helmed head slightly, before replying in an emotionless tone, "Are you prepared to step aside, Prince Innes, or would you continue to impede my progress?"

"She's made it very clear she doesn't want to see you," Innes stated firmly, not budging an inch. "Seems you've failed your roll as retainer, since I'm now defending her from you."

The knight listened to the words quietly, before offering a slight shrug in response.

"Let us save some time, Innes of Frelia, shall we?" He secured his visor, and began to unlatch his left gauntlet. "I find your attitude to be unseemly, even unchivalrous. Your purposeful obstruction of my duty despite my oaths to Renais and the Everlasting is an affront. You offend me."

And with a toss, he threw the gauntlet onto the floor just in front of the Frelian prince. Almost casually, he reached underneath his cloak for his shield and began to clasp it onto his left arm.

Innes withdrew an arrow from his quiver, twirling it in his fingers, then pulling his bowstrings back. "You've failed at your duty, dear night, upsetting your liege. Leave or prepare to die or go whine at Lord Ephraim asyou usually do.."

Seth unsheathed his sword with a cold, metallic shrill, "I am prepared to die, Prince Innes. Are you?"

Initially, Eirika's attention to the doorway was cast aside. She assumed it had been a wrong turn, and eventually whoever it was would leave her and Innes in peace. Instead, when she heard the archer's voice become stern and hard, she found herself pausing behind the Frelian prince.

"I am prepared to die, Prince Innes. Are you?"

"What nonsense is--" She broke off when she eyed Seth. Thump. It only happened once before she felt that immense anger pass over her. Her blue eyebrows narrowed, "You should not be here."

The knight glanced over to Eirika, and offered a polite nod, "Good evening, Lady Eirika."

He turned back to Innes, his sword held out in front of himself. The gauntlet had been thrown, and thus he waited.

What was this? Ridiculous nature! Innes knew better. She looked between the two closely. Innes hadn't started it at all. He was being the bigger man. Then again, of course he was.

Edging around him, she stepped in front of Innes and lifted her right arm, as though to protect him. "Enough of this! Seth of Renais, you are not welcome here! Return to your quarters immediately! Ignoring my orders is verily the same as dishonouring your liege lady!" Surely Ephraim would hear of this as well. Seth knew better than to deliberately pick banter.

Innes smirked behind Eirika and withdrew his arrow, replacing it in the quiver. He didn't need to say anything. Eirika was saying it all herself.

Seth's stance was steady as he did what he had not done so before - To openly disobey her orders, "I will never draw sword against you in a duel, Lady Eirika. But this matter is between Prince Innes and I."

He directed his next words back to Prince Innes, "Is your resolve to defend her there simply to humiliate me in front of her? Perhaps you have succeeded in that purpose. But it remains, I demand satisfaction from you for your slur upon me, and everyone else other than Lady Eirika."

"I don't need to do anything of that sort, Sir Seth," Innes replied, smirking. "You've done it to yourself."

The prince's attention wavered for just a moment to check on Eirika. She was obviously more than pissed, which is something he never wished to see drawn across her face.

"No," Eirika objected. "I don't care what happened between you two. I will not, however, stand here and listen to you slander this man." She eyed Innes for a moment, contemplating telling him to wait for her inside. She didn't need to defend him that far. He was a strong man.

So she did the next best thing, and perhaps in her worst judgement. Her right hand extended and it flew to Seth's face, with an astounding force behind it.

His eyes told him that she was about to slap him, but Seth's heart simply was unable to accept it, and thus the knight stood senseless as the slap connected.

It did not hurt him physically that much, because of the helm. Still, the ringing of metal and the force did staggered him for a moment. However, it was the action in itself that wounded Seth. There was a moment of stunned silence as he stared at the woman he was in love with.

"Mi...lady...?"

That wasn't what Innes had expected, but it was incredibly satisfying. The prince wrapped his arm around her gently.

"Is your hand okay, my lady?" Innes inquired.

It would have been a falsehood for Eirika to state she didn't hold regret for doing that. She'd never risen her hand against anyone unless it was during the war, and during those times, it was opposition. To think she would ever strike her retainer... She hated herself for that moment.

That hand lifted, trembling and splayed her fingertips upon Innes' chest and she looked over to him with a vague pleading, as though to ignore Seth and simply escort her back in. Her heart was more distressed now than it had been before.

Her words, however, were meant for Seth and she inclined her head, "...Thank you for your services, General Seth of Renais. I appreciate your dedication to my protection. However, you have no place here. Go home. I do not want to see you. I do not want to even hear your name. I do not want to even be informed of your status. My name belongs to Prince Innes. You have no place with me, or near me, or near him anymore. Please, take your leave."
