That said, today was interesting. Slept in, went out to lunch with the girls, got rear-ended in the parking lot, went shopping, chatted w/my flatmate, had a beer, watched TV, ate ice cream.... overall it was pretty good. A bit like a pre-birthday day minus the car thing. I got some great deals on clothes though!
Speaking of which, I'm apparently a t-shirt and jeans kind of gal. This isn't a surprise, I'm sure, to any of you who know me, but today it struck me as odd. You see, I've been rather excited to go out and buy "professional clothes" - slacks, button-ups, y'know...since I'll be graduating (again) this year and hope to land a sweet job. Yet I couldn't help gravitating towards the graphic tees and copper sneaks. It doesn't help much that when I went to my interview (for an internship that I landed) with a certain director [head of the dept] he was wearing old jeans, sneakers, and a blue button-up with (i kid you not) a huge hole in the elbow that his arm was sticking out of! I'm sitting through this interview thinking... is your job available?? haha A very nice man, but... [as Fran now calls me "Meredith"] seriously.
So, though I own many nice "grown up" clothes, and enjoy dressing up on occassion like any gal, I'm definitely coming around gladly to the idea that my typical office wear will consist primarily of optional heels, jeans, and a top from my random collection. Nice!
I also have a thing for handmade goods (arts and crafts whee!) and more "organic" products. This somehow brought me to
buyolympia.com which is a site where a slew of 'local' people and their works are put up for sale (the products not the people). Pretty cool site, I am especially in like with the "reading is sexy" buttons and other Sarah Utter goodies. Then one of my professors e-mailed me to suggest I listen to
KEXP - streaming radio out of Seattle [if you check it out beware they do have some quirky dayparts]. Between the two I am more and more convinced that another trip to the west coast is necessary (specifically Seattle and Portland) Like all other things I may never actually make it out there, but via website I'll bring them to me! *insert evil laughter* :-D
Oh, and MY BIRTHDAY IS IN 1 DAY!! ... just in case you were wondering ...
All other things are moving accordingly. I love that it's a new year. I know a lot of people say "bah, it's just another day" but if ever there's a time to say "to hell with all that other crap that happened to me, i'm moving on" it's at the turn of the year. And, of course, that's just what i did! I'm not really a "resolution setter" so instead I like to look at it like this:
It's not about forgetting your past or the people in it (good and bad). It's about accepting it all as part of your story, choosing not to dwell on the grime and gross, but instead to learn something - glean an insight - refurbish your dreams and carry on. Of course this can be done any time the mood strikes and the new year is just one more opportunity (but a good one since it usually includes drinks, friends, and fireworks!...in which case the fourth of July might serve you just as well)
I guess that's enough of my rant for now. I know some of you hate a long post, but oh well. Blame it on the fact that I don't post too often anyway. Besides, you like it :-p
