No cookie.

If I were a boy I'd be accused of gayness.

There are too many good bands out there that just don't stick up for themselves in a manly way. I like them... but it's okay for me to like them.

I'm a sissy girl.

But I wouldn't be able to help liking them if I were a boy.

Because they're so good.

Yesterday was Sarah's birthday.

We went to lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. We drove out to Seattle so Rachel could meet us there during her lunch break. We ate outside and it was sunny and hot but I wore a hat because I thought it looked cute and because my hair is getting a little bit long so it looks weird. I can't find my scissors - either I'll have to buy some new ones or actually go and get my hair cut by somebody who does that.

Bleh.

I drove Naomi out to Preston for ballet. Last time when I was out there I saw a sign for an antique shop up the mountain but I didn't have time to stop in. This time I drove up and followed the signs into a long gravel driveway. An older woman in shorts and a ribbed tank top came and greeted me. She took me to the shed behind her house where she kept all her merchandise. It was warm and musty in the two rooms - and there were shelves full of small trinkets and old kitchenware. There were cream-colored gloves and lace tea cozies, pearl strands and ceramic cookie jars from the fifties, and an accordion that I almost splurged on.

I did settle for three old books. "Black Beauty" and "Little Men" and "Miss Tree" - the oldest was "Miss Tree" from 1902. They all have embossed covers and beautiful pictures inside. The pages are jagged on the edges - like how they used to be. They smell wonderfully old. I bought them and now they're stacked up on the hearth with Oscar, Keats, and Doyle. I'm going to go broke buying old books.

I just can't help it.

So twenty dollars later I have these three new old books. I talked to the woman for a while - we shared our love of old things and she recommended a walking path in the woods for the next time I have an hour to kill in Preston. There's a trail to the falls not two minutes away.

We went out to dinner to celebrate Sarah's birthday, though most of us were still full from lunch. It was tasty and we reinvented Jensen family jokes to toss around for a few weeks.

Sarah opened presents later - she's fun to watch and easy to buy gifts for. She just likes things... and it's easy to give presents to people who like things.

We watched three episodes from "The Office" together and fell asleep on the couch.

And I've spent almost all my morning sitting at my computer writing a bunch of garbage and also re-drawing a picture I had almost finished last night but somehow is gone this morning.

I'm going to work for a little bit - shake off this feeling of uselessness that's creeping up on me.

How are you?

family, music, books
