Having now read volumes 1&2, I can confirm for anyone wondering that Gakuen Alice is weird. And disturbing. And incredibly cute, which makes the incredibly DEPRESSING, HORRIBLE things that happen that much worse. It's like if Koge Donbo decided to rewrite Kodocha as some sort of psychotic child abuse story with magical powers. I both love it and find it very creepy.
I am also torn as to who I wish to see pair up. Even though my every shojo-cliche instinct is to pair up the bad boy and obvious love interest with the heroine, Natsume takes
Troubled But Cute to rather dangerous levels I do not approve of, and they don't seem to have much chemistry together besides. Hotaro/Mikan and Natsume/Luca works out much better, and avoids a lot of the whole abuse-the-one-you-love aspect (mostly, anyway), but I am afraid to get too invested because I doubt Gakuen Alice is going to grant me two gay relationships, let alone one.
I don't usually find myself going against likely canon like this; it pains me greatly. Then again, there have been enough other crazy surprises in this manga already, so why not one more if it would make me happy?
Interesting facts I have learned lately:
The Rainbow Brite movie is now slightly less implausible - there really is a planet made out of a
single giant diamond. However, I doubt that all the light of the universe passes through it, and it probably isn't responsible for our overly long winter, either.
In Japan, Jean val Jean's number in the musical is 24653, not 24601. This is (I surmise) because ni-yo-roku-go-san sounds better when sung than ni-yo-roku-zero-ichi. I learned this because I have found a copy of Les Miz in Japanese. It is... odd. Not bad, but... odd.
My parents have [probably] sold their house at long last, and will be moving to Ohio in three weeks. The probably is there because at this point, everyone's kind of paranoid about things falling through, even though the deposit is in and everything. Cross your fingers. Also, this means that once Vicki and Robyn are returned to us again next year, we'll have to meet somewhere other than my house for the impromptu reunion. I hear Nicole enjoys having unexpected guests... :P
