Remember when I mentioned thinking about starting Naruto again when I discovered myself downloading emo SasuNaru fanmixes? Well, just last night I finally caught up as far as volume 27, which fans will know is the timeskip and non-fans won't care about the rest of this topic anyway.

Hahaha, I'm trying to remember what happened in volume 27 of Naruto, but it's been so long...I didn't quite remember. But, I gotta say, personally I was a big fan of the small fights leading up to the big fight between Naruto and Sasuke. especially with the sand ninjas (Gaara kyaaa!) And I'm sure the sand ninjas, since they are way better than the konoha ninjas already planned out who goes for which enemy. Oh man, I love the bone guy, he's so cool and him fighting with Lee was just so hilarious.

And yea, I have to agree with you on the Shikamaru's whole "Ugh, a girl??? I have to fight a girl???" thing rather annoying. I think Kishi just did that to make it a whole Shikamaru-Temari thing for their fans. But I don't know, Shikamaru is one of those characters that are like way uncool around the opposite sex and maybe that's because he's going through thoise stages in life...where it becomes awkward...? I don't know, cuz Shikamaru seems to be mentally more mature than the other konoha ninjas.

Yea, the infamous time-gap? I haven't really watched the anime too much but I know it was horrible. Random missions and random crap. Well, luckily in the manga it just goes straight to them growed up.
