I have a new least favorite song. (Discounting the entire genre of rap, because that was a given.) Last week's least-favorite, sparked by the season, was The Christmas Shoes, a heart-warming tale about cherubian scammers, the dangers of commercialism, and sons buying dying mothers shoes instead of, I dunno, being at her bedside or getting her cough medicine or something. Complete with a children's chorus, it exemplifies one of the few sides of Christmas I don't like: stupid glurge involving Jesus. (Really? God made that little boy's mother die so you could learn an important life lesson? Assuming she exists and he wasn't, as previously mentioned, a scammer, of course.)

Anyway.

Continuing the theme of stupid Jesus glurge, my new least favorite is The Little Girl. It's a heart-warming story about (spoilers!) how atheists do drugs, beat their children, and commit murder-suicide. Thanks, John Michael Montgomery! But for everyone worried about the (totally real and not made up!) little girl, it turns out Jesus was with her all along, even though she didn't know his name. How... touching. ::sniff::

Sometimes I really, really hate Christianity, or at least what passes for it on the radio. And don't even get me started on the "War on Christmas." What?! You want to include Jews and Muslims and Druids and whomever in your season greetings? The very nerve! Jesus and a need for a bigger party than the pagan solstice are the reason for the season, not Chanukah!

Argggghhhhhh. Suddenly, Two Pink Lines seems like a masterful composition, implications about marriage for stupid reasons aside. And I need to stop listening to country on the radio, even if is just during the endless commercials on the light FM station. (I live in Iowa. There are only so many non-country radio stations.)

Side note: I actually debated with myself whether to leave this public or friends-only, even though my general policy is if I'm willing to say it to one person, I should be willing to say it to everyone. So why does religion make me feel like I can't talk about why I don't like it? I wouldn't feel this way about insulting Evangelion or something else I know lots of people like. Stupid societal conditions.

And now, mathematical innuendo.

ETA: Mathematical innuendo! While I greatly appreciate the thoughtful discussion on religion and country, how is it no one has commented on e and pi's blind date? Should I make separate entries next time?
