That is not the ending I expected for Level E. But then again, considering the show, perhaps I should have expected that I wouldn't expect it...?
Also, now that there's only one or two chapters to go before the end, I got caught up on Kobato. Just as well I waited, since it was all of what, five short volumes? In general, I liked the pacing of the anime better, but the manga has a leg up on making Fujimoto semi-likable (I still have no interest in him and Sayaka, but they're more tolerable in shorter doses, and the manga gives them their character development much faster), and of course, gives us the all-important BACKSTORY. (Ioryogi <3 <3 <3) If the anime could have just had the backstory, it would be my clear favorite by a mile.
