While me and my two friends were visiting Kyoto, Japan, we were exploring the Fushimi-Inari shrine one afternoon. We walked all the way up the steps and through the gates, reached the top, and tried to find a different way to descend for the sake of seeing as much of it as we could without backtracking. What we ended up doing was going down off on a service-truck trail that wound all the way around the mountain with no signs of people or civilization. We kept going down for about an hour and a half before emerging some miles south of the main city, in a suburb. I can look back on it now and laugh, despite being very tired and cranky at the time XD
