Although this is my second summer in Chicago, it's the first one I'm working in an office rather than from home.

So after buying a new winter wardrobe that first January I moved here, then a summer wardrobe for the Turkish Bath that is Chicago in August, now I need a whole new one. It needs to be dressy enough for work (which thankfully is business casual rather than suits) but layered enough to move from crowded trains in 90 degree weather to offices that are air-conditioned to near freezing. Oh yes, and the necklines need to be high enough so I don't distract the developers...

Ah, and then there was the epic hunt for basic, mid-heel black pumps. Surely the most quintessential of office footwear. And yet. Millions of pairs of black sandals, wedges, mary-janes, slingbacks and mules. No black pumps. I finally found a pair yesterday, but not before my old pair had gotten so ragged I was avoiding black work clothes so I wouldn't have to wear them.

This city is costing me a fortune in clothes.
