My heart is racing, my throat is dry and I feel like hiding under my desk. What's caused all this? I made an appointment with a dentist.
It's awful - I'm scared of very few things in life but dentists have always been traumatic. I've always had sensitive teeth, and no amount of treatment, natural or traditional, has improved that. As a result, almost everything a dentist does, even stuff that doesn't bother most people, is very uncomfortable, if not painful. I've been known to accidentally bite a dental hygienist who thought I was exaggerating and insisted on continuing to do something very painful.
This is a new dentist, and they come recommended for nervous patients, so I should be OK. And yet, I'm cowering. I used to think this would get better when I grew up. Apparently not.
