because "Cover Songs Meme" was not as cool
So,
saba1789 and I are cover songs worshippers and decided to make a meme to GET MOAR spread the love :)
Saba managed to keep the linkage under control... Me, not so much.
My "Cover Songs" folder has more than a hundred files in it, so you can understand why it'd be cruel of you to ask me to choose just a handful, but I don't want to scare you away either, so let's try starting with my top 5
o1.
The Book of Love performed by The Magnetic Fields. I could listen to this one on loop for a very long time. Best experienced with the volume turned up high. The vibrato will make you shiver.
o2.
Fly Me To The Moon performed by Claire. This was one of the versions selected for the Neon Genesis Evangelion End credits. There were four or five of them, but this one was the absolute best.
o3.
If You Leave performed by Nada Surf. I like the intro so much ♥ and I really like Caws's voice in general.
o4.
Crazy performed by Norah Jones. Attention! This is not Seal's "Crazy" (covered by
Alanis Morissette), it's Patsy Cline's and this is a live recording! Norah Jones's voice feels to me like melted butter, and this song is just beautiful.
o5.
Dust In The Wind performed live by Linkin Park. The harmonies! OMG the harmonies! If there's something Linkin Park knows how to do is harmonies. I love this cover to pieces (and there a nice little guitar piece at the end).
Now, those ones are my absolute favourite, but you see... There are many more songs I want to share with you! For example:
o6.
Steady As She Goes performed by Corinne Bailey Rae. The percussions in this one are really nice and I like what she did with this song.
o7.
In Your Eyes performed by Jeffrey Gaines. I've seen many people confuse him with Ben Harper, which it's weird because if you listen to Gaines's voice, it's nothing like Harper's. Anyway, great cover song!
o8.
Shiver performed by Maximo Park. I really, really, really like the strings in this one.
o9.
Here Comes The Sun performed live by Coldplay. Okay, Coldplay is one of my favourite bands and I'm kind of sad that they rarely do cover songs. But they did do this one :)
1o.
Shadow Of The Day performed by Boyce Avenue. I like this one almost more than the original one, mostly because it's just voice plus piano and it's still as strong as the full band version.
11.
My Doorbell performed by Jack Johnson. How much does Nasty like Jack Johnson? A lot. A whole lot. She likes him so much that she wished he was included in bandom. *prays for the day that one of our silly boys will ask him to do a collaboration*
Anyway, while I was browsing my cover songs folder, I came up with a game that I call "From Beatles to Bandom". The aim of this game is to connect the Beatles to someone in Bandom by means of cover songs and without using the obvious Ealeanor Rigby cover by Panic in less than 6 steps (because with Bandom, 6 degrees are too many).
I managed to win twice \o/
one. The Beatles' song "Something In The Way She Moves" has been
covered by Radiohead (1), whose song "Creep" has been
reworked by Bob Dylan (2), authour of the song "Desolation Row" recently
covered by My Chemical Romance (3).
two. Bono and The Edge of U2 covered
"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (1), U2's song "With Or Without You" got
covered by Keane (2) whose song "Everybody's Changing" has been
reworked by Lily Allen (3) who also
covered "Womanizer" by Britney Spears (4), whose song "Baby One More Time" got
covered by Panic! (5).
:D?
If you've managed to reach this point without gnawing on your wrist, GOOD JOB! As a prize for your resiliance to my faily spazzing, I'll give you some goodies!
