I'm in the middle of my pseudo-vacation from work. I took Friday off, had the regular weekend, plus the 4th, and I'm taking Tuesday off as well. Only problem is that I won't want to go back on Wednesday. Yesterday was beautiful. Matt and I went for a picnic lunch in the park behind our apartment. It's amazing-- it's a really large park for a small town, very well-maintained, and there was hardly anyone there! We did scare a woodchuck half to death... it sat about twenty feet away from us, totally petrified, for about half an hour. Finally it decided we weren't that much of a threat and bounded into its burrow. Yes, woodchucks bound. It's hilarious.
We went into Portland last night for dinner and a movie and as we drove into town, there's this mammoth aircraft carrier sitting in the harbor. The biggest ship I've ever seen in my life. It's nearly as large as the Old Port. And there were sailors *everywhere*. We spoke to a couple of them, the ship is the Iwo Jima; they came up from Norfolk, Virginia, for a few days. They were extremely unimpressed with the theater we sat in for "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." I think they were certain it was some kind of joke being played on them. No, really, it's an actual cinema. It's just really old. At least the seats are really comfortable, and the tickets a bit cheaper than the newer cinemas. And the movie was great. My favourite part (which isn't really a spoiler): the Fight Club t-shirt. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Up to the midcoast today, for a variety of cookouts and such. Whee!
