Grilled Cheese Kisses
Thursday night. Every other Thursday night, Jared didn't work at the bar. This was one of those Thursdays, but as far as Jensen was concerned it could have been Christmas Eve. He didn't care what day of the week it was. Sometimes just recently, he didn't even know what day of the week it was. He went to work, came home, ate and slept for a few hours. Rinse and repeat. Sleeping had been tough for the past few nights because their air conditioning wasn't working properly. Their maintenance guy kept promising to come look at it, but so far he hadn't been. Jared had made an irate phone call that morning as Jensen had left for the hospital, saturated with sweat in spite of the shower he'd taken, and he hadn't stayed to hear what had been said.
When he walked in at almost midnight and felt the blast of frigid air against his face, he figured that Jared had probably threatened violence of some kind. It didn't help wake him up, though, and he stumbled tiredly to the couch where Jared sprawled, scratching behind Maya's ears as she slept with her head in his lap. He was watching the news channel, the volume down low, but he looked around as Jensen approached him.
"Hey, sexy," he said, gently pushing the dog off his lap so Jensen could sit. Jensen gave a small smile, and Jared frowned at him. "You okay?"
"Tired," was all Jensen answered, just before he plopped down on the couch next to Jared. He leaned against him and felt Jared's arm come around him. It wasn't as unbearable as it had been when the air conditioning had been broken. Now it was a comfortable heat from his skin and Jensen snuggled into him, rested his head on the other man's shoulder. He felt Jared's lips press to the top of his head and hummed contentedly.
"Long day, huh?"
"Mm."
"You hungry?" Jensen's stomach growled at the very thought of food and Jared shook underneath him, a deep chuckle rumbling in his throat. "Guess that answers that then. Hey, stay here, I'll fix you something to eat."
He protested, not wanting to lose his pillow, but it was half-hearted at best and Jared left him with another brief kiss. Jensen slid sideways once he was gone, falling across all three of the cushions. He let one arm hang down, his knuckles brushing against the floor, and couldn't help but laugh when Maya started licking his fingers. Forgiving him for forcing her out of her comfy spot on Jared's lap. She nosed his wrist and it tickled, so he drew his hand away from her slowly and stroked her face. Told her she was a good girl. She gave up on him once the smells started filtering in from the kitchen and went to see what Jared was making. Jensen sniffed, smelt grilled cheese, and closed his eyes. Jared knew him way too well.
He fell asleep before Jared returned, waking slowly as the plate was wafted under his nose. Jared managed to slide back into his place under Jensen, pulling the younger man against his side as he started in on the snack.
"God, this is good," Jensen mumbled around a mouthful of food. He turned his head and Jared kissed his greasy lips. "Thank you."
"So what happened at work today?"
"Everything. Nothing bad and nothing exciting, just everything in between." Jensen took another bite, chewed, swallowed. "Hard work, that's all."
"I hope you're not going to overdo it," Jared told him. Jensen was surprised at how worried he sounded and he took the chance to look at him carefully.
"I won't," he reassured him.
"You need to conserve your energy."
Jensen chuckled. "Right, of course."
"Are you too tired to-"
"Depends."
Jared grinned at him. "You want to lie back and let me do all the work?"
"I might fall asleep."
Kissing him softly, just below his ear, Jared shook his head. "If I let you."
