Notes: A "missing scene" from Heavy Metal Thunder (aka Book One), requested by a reader, in which Jared takes care of Jensen after the events of chapter 23.
Jared calls Jeff, because he doesn't think he can deal with this alone. Jensen, he's certain that the boy loves him, though for the life of him he can't figure out why, and he suddenly feels like maybe his own heart isn't really his own anymore. Jensen came straight to him when Chris dropped him off, let Jared hold him and told him that he was okay even though he was far from it. But now he has him sat down, now he has the medicine box out and is trying to clean him up, Jensen is shying away from his touch. It's more upsetting than he lets on.
"C'mon, I just want to-"
"I know," Jensen says. He sounds like he has a bad head-cold, but Jared knows it's just blood, dried blood that's blocking his nose. "I'm sorry."
"Fuck, don't apologize. That's the last thing you do."
He has tears in his eyes when he looks up at Jared. "I let him-"
"You didn't let him do anything," Jared insists. "Just... Just shut up, okay?" He reaches out with one hand and when Jensen's still, he strokes the younger man's hair back. Jensen winces at the touch and Jared gets more angry at Doug for doing this. "I'm sorry," he tells him. "I'm sorry it hurts and sorry that I'm making it worse. But I have to see what he did. We have to get you cleaned up."
"Yeah."
Jared curls his fingers around the back of Jensen's head, cradles it as he leans forward and gently kisses him. Jensen hisses at the contact and Jared just breathes for a moment, tightens his fingers. "Are we okay to do this now?" he asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jensen nods slowly, watches him move back and pick up some cotton balls and the bottle of peroxide. He looks like he's steeling himself, holding his breath, and Jared doesn't want to hurt him, but he's probably going to. But Jensen doesn't make a sound at the first touch against the cut at his temple. He squeezes his eyes shut so tight that the tears are forced out, but he stays silent. It makes Jared's heart ache to see him.
Jeff arrives home while Jared's still trying to clean Jensen's face up. It's hard work because he doesn't want to make him feel worse. Jensen keeps slowing him down, a hand tight around his wrist to make him stop. When Jeff's there, they get Jensen's shirt off him and Jeff makes him drink something to see how he manages. There's a bowl on the table with bloodied water in it, a tooth sitting inside it. Jeff wrinkles his nose and swears under his breath when he sees that.
"You're going to the hospital now," he says, convinced the kid could have injuries that they just can't see. But Jensen tells him he's okay, he's breathing, and Jeff has to let it go. They patch up the cuts, using Liquid Bandage which makes Jensen suck in his breath as he tries not to move, and which makes Jared whisper apologies to him the whole time. Jeff hands Jared some rubbing alcohol and tells him to get the writing off, the word on Jensen's stomach which made Jared feel even sicker than all the injuries.
Jared leads the younger man from the kitchen, out to the garage where he can get him a bit more comfortable. He lays him down on the sofa, thinks he probably won't make it up the ladder just yet, and he spreads his fingers over Jensen's stomach. He touches the ink, or whatever it is that's been used to mark his skin, and he looks up at Jensen.
"You don't believe this, do you?"
"What?"
"This fucking word. Doug doesn't know any better, you know? But he will. I promise you, he will."
Jensen only nods. Jared pours some alcohol out onto a cotton ball and swipes at Jensen's skin with it. Then rubs. It barely makes a difference, except to cause Jensen more pain.
"Maybe I should wait and-"
"No, just..please. I want it off me."
"We'll get it off, I promise."
Jared works at it, kissing Jensen's bare skin in between trying to get the mark off him. "You're not some dirty pervert, not like he thinks you are. You have to stay proud of who you are, Jen, all right? You're beautiful, so perfect, even with this, it's not gonna ruin you for me. Maybe he thought it would, but it won't."
"Ssh," Jensen says, his voice weak.
"I mean it."
Jensen's eyes close and he reaches down, covers Jared's hand with his and winds their fingers together. "I know, all right?" He takes a deep breath, stopping short when it starts to hurt. Jared squeezes his hand, tries to ignore the state of him, the terrible word on his skin. Jensen looks at him, smiles as much as he can. "Jay, I know."
