Here I am.
Listening to Bright Eyes.
I'm a little drunk and a little nostalgic and it's times like these when I want to see all my friends from back when we were in college.
New Orleans is treating me awesomely, though.
Melanie came to visit this past week and shed light on what an awesome city I'm living in.
It's easy to forget how many cool things there are to do on any given night.
Our time together was full of drinking and explorations and wondrous things of that nature.
Quick run-down:
volunteer-funded dinner at Jaques-Imo's
drinks at Columns Bar on St. Charles
ultimate frisbee with roomie's at Audubon Park
Rebirth Brass Band @ the Maple Leaf
Cheap Daiquiri's
French Quarter - Streetcar ride, Cafe du Mond, Riverwalk, French Market, Jackson Square
Abita Brewery Tour
Abita Mystery House - read: AWESOMELY weird museum full of random shit
Boiled Crawfish!
Trip to the Audubon Zoo (just Melanie while I was at work)
Drinking in the Marigny
....and plenty of house-building
I just need to take a second to express how much I love my situation here. I have an amazing boyfriend and amazing friends and co-workers. The city is beautiful and complicated and I am not sure how I'll ever manage to leave it behind. My job is fun and fulfilling and I'm learning new things about people and construction every day. Every week, I meet a group of volunteers from some location far away and they all have something wonderful to offer to the rebuilding of the city. The weather has finally warmed up and I am so excited to spend the rest of Spring here. I feel like I've won the lottery...except for the utter lack of FUNDS in my life. But really...I feel incredibly lucky.
