Saw V for Vendetta last night, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Lived up to the hype, and it had me humming Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture the rest of the night. I especially loved all the America-bashing they did, and how outright and blatant the imagery was. Logan was arguing that he'd wished it was a little more subtle, and I would agree with him in other matters, but I think that in these troubled times, the film's striking symbolism aligns itself nicely with the striking symbolism and invective used by the American government when making its case for war and hate. When George W. Bush calls the phantom war on terror a "crusade" and mentions that it's God's will for him not only to be president but to fight this (racist) war, it's perfectly fine for the filmmakers to accentuate that for their evil dictator character. (Also there is historical precedent: Woodrow Wilson claimed that it was God himself who made Wilson president and made him enter a period of beligerency in World War I. However I'm pretty sure if that's true, God was drunk.) Anyways, if you watch the movie, you'll understand about the imagery.
Furthermore, one of my favorite things in the world is dissent through mass action, and this film rocks it hellafools deep.
In conclusion, 1984 + Phantom of the Opera + Abu Ghraib = V for Vendetta
P.S.: Special thanks to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Bill O'Reilly for use of their likenesses
