Summer Goals

Jun 28, 2013 04:17

So, there are a few things I'd like to get done by the end of the summer, and I figured I might as well write them down here as a reminder to myself, and so that I can look back at it come August and smack myself in the head for not succeeding.

1. Finish my book. I'm writing a fantasy novel, and I've been working on it for years. My New Year's Resolution has been to finish it for about three years now. But, the end is finally in sight, I'm almost to the climax, and finishing it by the end of the summer now looks to be actually doable.

2. Buy a new computer. There are two I'm looking at--both specifically for gaming because that's what I need for school--one an Alienware and the other a CyberpowerPC; the latter is more powerful, but slightly more expensive. However, it would also be easier to get, as I would only need to drive to Terre Haute (or just get it shipped to my house) whereas the other is non-shippable and would require a drive to Louisville, Kentucky. I'm waiting to get some advice from a couple people before I decide which one to get.

3. Read a lot. I have a large stack of books I'd like to read before the end of summer. I'm not going to list them here, but I might in a later post.

4. Learn to ride a bike. My parents bought me a bicycle for Christmas one year when I was a kid. It turned out to be a complete waste of money. I was so terrified of falling over that I never learned to ride. And I'm always a little embarrassed to admit that I can't ride a bike. But considering there's a real possibility I could end up living in a big city some day, and in the interest of being "green," I'm planning on borrowing my mom's old bike and attempting to learn to ride at last.

5. Go swimming. Doesn't matter where, when, for how long, and how many times, I just want to get in the water, dammit! Actually, there is one place I won't go--I recently learned that we can in fact get alligator snapping turtles around here, which is yet another reason for me not to want to go swimming in fresh water. Incidentally, I think the turtle I rescued a few weeks ago was a small Common Snapping Turtle (I say small because it was about eight inches long and they can get up to nearly twenty inches) but I haven't been able to verify this. Snappers seem to be the only turtles native to the US with long ridged tails, which this turtle had, but it didn't fit the description exactly, so I'm still a little confused.

So, anyway, those are my goals, as they now stand. Number 2 is probably the most likely to come to fruition, mainly because I really need a computer. Whether I meet the others, well, we'll see.

computers, random, vacation
