Wrapping It All Up

When everyone was finally into dry clothes, which revealed the unsurprising fact that Jack owned a rather large number of sweatpants, sweatshirts, and gym socks, which he clearly bought rather too large, since Teal'c fit into them without difficulty, and the surprising fact that Vala, in spite of all her time on Earth, was still inclined to view Sam's sweats in what Jack called "Barbie Pink" as a boy's color, Jack wanted to open the presents. In the discussion that followed, Daniel made a flurry of quickly spoken and rather loud points, because he was hungry, having been a bit too queasy and headachy first thing in the morning to have properly dug in to his breakfast. Before things got too out of hand, Vala, currying favor with Daniel by taking his side, which was the only reason she would ever consider postponing presents herself, pointed out that Jack could no longer order Daniel around. He might have been a general, but now he was retired.

"I never could!" huffed Jack grumpily under his breath, following the rest to the kitchen, where Sam was pulling out the cold cuts, the cheese, and the condiments, while Teal'c began efficiently cutting razor thin slices of tomato, after a great deal of careful knife sharpening. Vala and Cam put together a salad, bickering cheerfully about whether raw onion slices and olives were necessary touches, or just plain un-American. Daniel, having discovered, to his horror that neither Feta cheese or an espresso machine were available, and that his options for making more coffee were either cup-by-cup in a single cup drip machine, or using that anathema of coffee connosseurs everywhere, a percolator ("What? It was a wedding present, and Sara didn't want it, so I took it!"), was busy cranking out single mugs of coffee for all takers. Jack, who had disappeared for a few minutes, soon busied himself making hot cocoa from scratch in a saucepan for the rest of them. Teal'c preferred the lactose-free egg nog Sam had found for him.

Everyone took great delight in eating slowly, and dawdling over second cups of coffee (Sam and Daniel), mugs of tea (Vala), more cocoa (Cam), and a glass of orange juice (Teal'c), while Jack made a battalion of small snowmen out of mini-marshmallows and toothpicks, between trying to melt everyone into piles of obedient goo with his finest pleading puppy eyes.
