The trend for today was people calling in about Blizzard's pay by phone option. I probably took around 40-50 calls today. As usual, easily 1/2 of them were people whose accounts had been "hacked." Usually, this is because they gave their account info to someone else, and then either that person, or someone else they told, was able to get into their account and futz with the information. Sometimes, it's because they practiced unsafe internet usage; maybe they weren't careful with what they downloaded and got a keylogger. So it shouldn't stand out that I received only 3 calls today about Payment One, blizzard's pay by phone option. Except that's 3 more than I have ever taken before. This was the first day that I received any questions about PaymentOne, and the first time I've even seen it on an account, and in one day, within a few hours, I had received 3 calls about it. Basically, if your local phone company supports it, you can have your WoW account bill to your phone account. It's a rare service; hardly anyone uses it, and Blizzard doesn't really support it as much as just accepts it. We can help customers with some basic troubleshooting, but what it comes down to is if you really have trouble, we can only direct you to the phone company for help. The analogy my senior drew is that it's like calling your bank when your power goes out. Sure, it sometimes is the bank's fault. Maybe they bounced your check accidentally or something. But more often than not, the problem is gonna lie with your power company.
In other news, further proof that I work for a company filled with nerds: my senior was reading the Psionics Handbook for D&D today, because he was creating a character for a new game. Also, he's trying to get a Heroscape league set up, since Billing has a spare office that is not likely to be filled any time soon. Seriously, nerds everywhere. It's quite refreshing to not be the "weird" one.
Also, I think I may need to get a new iPod soon. My current one seems to be on its last legs; I've had to restore it to its factory settings twice for freezing up on me. Blizzard has a deal with Apple where I can get one with a discount, so I may do that soon. I just don't like the fact that, since I have just over 10 Gb of music, I have to get an 80 Gb iPod, since all my music won't fit on a nano. Que sera sera.
