3rd person limited POV

Jul 12, 2012 21:43

It was a wonderful day, the rays of the sunlight shot down everywhere, not missing a beat. On the road winding road the wind traveled in and out of the opened window on Charles’ side. His girlfriend often griped at him that it would mess up her hair, but he always reassured her that nothing could make her look bad. She glanced over at him with a smile and he smiled back at her. He loved to watch her drive and loved to be able to reach beside him and grab her hand. Time went by slowly as she drove. They passed many cars, but up ahead there was a stop light. It was red. Charles watched as she began to check her speed, in which they were going the limit of 50. She slowed down to 45 before the red light ahead changed quickly to green and she immediately sped back up to 50 at the very second they started to go under the lights. Immediately, as Charles glanced at his girlfriend, she kept her gaze on the road ahead, not looking to the left in the direction Charles was looking as a car sped into their direction from the road that had the red light currently. No. He better not. No! You Idiot driver… Meghan, Breaks! NOW!

Charles opened his mouth to say something to Meghan, but couldn’t. She suddenly looked in the direction of the illegally turning driver. He was unable to brace for impact. The other car made contact with the rear part of the Meghan’s causing it to spin out of control and flip onto its side, then in one quick movement, to the roof. The car came to a skidding halt just as the other car that had been involved in the wreck had stopped too. The damage could be seen in both of the vehicles, but the little blue chevy that held Meghan and Charles looked almost like a horror movie. Smoke rose out from the underbelly of the car from the contact of metal against concrete and the motor began to drip a black substance. Inside the blue chevy, Charles began to move. A moan escaped his lips as he began to regain his vision. At first, he only blinked his eyes. What just happened? He began to look around at the broken glass that was shattered everywhere and the glass that covered and cut his shirt. Meghan just bought this for me. She’s going to be so mad. Wait! He looked to his left, afraid of what he was going to see.

“Meghan?” He whispered out to her, but as he looked into her direction, she didn’t speak nor move. She was in suspended animation as her seatbelt had done its job to keep her from moving. She hung there with the belt in place. Charles, on the other hand, had slipped out of his seatbelt just enough that his back was laying on the ceiling of the car and his legs were hooked in the belt. Charles grimaced as he tried to move. I’ve got to get out of this car. If only it were that easy.

“Meghan. Answer me sweetie! Are you okay?” He seemed to plead with her to wake up to his words. He continued to try to get out of the harness that bound his legs in an awkward fashion. A second later after he spoke to her, she whispered to him.

“Yeah. I think I’m okay?” He watched as her lips moved slowly and very little. A small cut marred her forehead. He looked at her sadly. He hated to see her in pain.

“Hey! Is everyone okay in there?” A third voice chimed in through the broken glass of the passenger window. Charles noticed a woman, maybe early 30’s, poke her head into the car. She looked at Charles and glanced over at Meghan. The woman gasped as she saw the condition the two were in. She looked him straight in the eyes. “Help is on the way. We’re going to get you out!”
