So I started
Dollhouse; I saw the first two episodes last night. I agree that the second was slightly better than the first, but I think that it's doing a good enough job establishing a narrative that it's hard to comment on episode-by-episode quality.
I initially didn't like the theme song; it felt very "Lifetime TV" to me. However, I've had it stuck in my head all day, so maybe they're onto something. I do still think that
this would better fit the mood. Or just be more awesome.
I saw a comment on a forum that noted that the beds in the complex were like a toybox, and the Dollhouse administration put the dolls away when they were done playing with them. I thought that was an interesting observation. The same forum also said "all seven episodes are going to be great!" and "I have five hours left on my DVR so I can record the entire run of the show." I certainly hope not.
The technician is the Whedon comic relief character. If I hadn't seen Buffy and Firefly, I'd think him the most amazing person ever. As it is, he's a reincarnation (preincarnation?) of Wash, and that makes it harder to appreciate him as a character. He's still cool, though.
The neighbor of the policeman is so seriously up to something, it's not worth speculating about. That scene felt the most heavy-handed out of anything I've seen by Joss Whedon.
The end of the second episode seriously creeped me out. It was almost inexplicable; it shouldn't have been that creepy. Maybe it was the music or the preceding conversation (which I thought was somewhat dumb) or the lighting. I have no idea.
It's not Firefly, but it's not trying to be. I don't know that it will be the next big show, but it certainly holds more attention for me than does Heroes these days. We'll see how it goes....
Also, I can watch Hulu in high definition on a DSL connection. I'm lucky if I can get the low res to run in the small window at school. I suppose that's what happens when they provide Internet to 2000 people; most things work fine most (keyword) of the time, but streaming and downloading can be slow. Ah well; such is life.
Also also, I still want to watch Coraline sometime soon.
Also also also, is anyone planning on getting to Watchmen? I would be extremely surprised if the local theater ran it.
