Within minutes after posting to my LiveJournal, I got an IM from a stranger.
(4:04:27 PM) ViralSalmon: I'm from the Internet. I'm here to help.
(4:04:43 PM) Arctic: Great. Do I know you?
(4:05:39 PM) ViralSalmon: actually you don't
(4:05:48 PM) ViralSalmon: this is a practical joke thingie
(4:05:49 PM) ViralSalmon:
http://blinovitch.livejournal.com/335310.html(4:05:54 PM) ViralSalmon: that will explain it
(4:06:03 PM) ViralSalmon: or just google "salmon bot" if you don't want to use that URL
(4:06:57 PM) Arctic: Ah... I see.
(4:07:05 PM) ViralSalmon: =)
(4:07:07 PM) ViralSalmon: sometimes it's fun
(4:07:16 PM) ViralSalmon: sometimes you get really angry people
(4:07:19 PM) Arctic: Heh
Apparently, there's some sort of bot that looks for people have just updated their LiveJournals and sends them random IMs masked through some Salmon username. Just spreading the word.
Edit: Salmon'd Community-
http://community.livejournal.com/themissinghat/The bot doesn't appear to be malicious in any way; it just randomly starts a conversation with another LJ poster. It's an interesting social experiment, I suppose.
