Author's Note: So... the beginning of this I was really excited for and I think it turned out great, but then the ending... ugh. I wanted it to go one way, but then that had nothing to do with the beginning, then when I did make it do with the beginning, it wanted to turn out sexy like I didn't want it to. Overall, frustrating and it sucks at the end :/
Also, I got the idea for it because I was checking out this new fic request comm, music_rave , and shihan_ai suggested it and my brain instantly started writing the beginning. so, if you're reading this, this is for you, whoever you are. I'm sorry if it disappoints, but I warned you.
“Why don’t you ever say anything?”
Yonghwa’s voice rings throughout the small bedroom, but Jonghyun is unfazed. He’s used to this, despite what the elder shows on camera.
“How can I when you take up all the screen time?” the younger asks, his composure not failing. Not yet. He is calm and collect Jonghyun.
“I only talk all the time because no one else talks!” Yonghwa is trying to defend himself, but everyone knows he just has a big mouth. “I know you have a voice, I want you to use it, okay?”
“Listen, hyung. You give me a chance to talk and I will.” And now his cool is starting to dissipate. “I’m surprised Minhyuk and Jungshin get in as much as they do. Are you favoring the magnaes now?” As the words left his mouth, Jonghyun knew he’d struck a nerve in the older male.
The look on Yonghwa’s face as he turns to look at the younger member tells Jonghyun exactly how he feels about that last statement. And it wasn’t happy, that’s for sure. Jonghyun took a step back from the other male, his back hitting the wall as he did. “I gave you a chance, Jonghyun. Minhyuk and Jungshin took it, you didn’t. I don’t want this attention whore image anymore, you have to speak up sometime.” His voice, despite how angry he looks at the moment, isn’t showing any signs of anger, and that almost makes it scarier.
He doesn’t have a comeback for that, so he simply stands there, holding Yonghwa’s gaze for a moment, his chest tight. “I’m sorry,” he says after a few moments of silence, unable to bear the tension between them. “I’ll try not to… disappoint you next time.” Although the words sound slightly sarcastic as he says them, he does mean them in all sincerity, and it appears as though Yonghwa understands this because he doesn’t say anymore as he turns to leave the room.
Until he turns, his eyes once more finding Jonghyun’s and holding the younger male’s gaze for a moment. He looks as though he wants to say something and Jonghyun really wishes he would, but he doesn’t, merely sighing before exiting the room and shutting the door behind him.

It’s later that week when Jonghyun wakes up from a nap to see a note on his guitar as he packs it in its case to go to a radio show. I want to hear your voice.
He does talk more in that show, but it’s obvious that everyone favors their leader, always asking his opinion and wanting to know more about him. It’s a rare chance that he gets when he is asked about his Judo accomplishments, but even then, Yonghwa seems to take over and talk for him. He decides he will never understand the way the other’s brain works.
He doesn’t speak at all when Hongki shows up, his sunbae talking more than Yonghwa, and from then on it’s all Yonghwa, Yonghwa, Yonghwa.
When they get home, he avoids the other vocalist, silently slipping away to his bed without a word to the others as they fuss about things that were said and things that should and shouldn’t be said against the leader and hyung on live radio. And it’s not the first time that Jonghyun’s chest hurts as he hears their laughter outside the door.
He’s unsure how long he’s lain there awake before he hears the door open, but he doesn’t turn to see who it is, pretending as though he’s asleep. Even when he feels the bed dip slightly as someone sits on the edge, he simply pulls the blanket tighter around him. Although he’s pretty sure the other person is Yonghwa, he can’t be positive since a few minutes later he stands and leaves the room again without saying anything.

It’s another couple months before they have another interview, one that takes place during a photo shoot for a new clothing brand. That day as well, he finds a note on his clothes when he goes to get dressed to head to the studio. I want to hear your voice.
This time he is given more of a chance to speak, though it’s still not much, and the mc and camera still obviously favor Yonghwa. And the cat. And he was sure that Minhyuk got more screen time than him as well. But Yonghwa was always there.
Arriving home, Jonghyun goes to head for his room again, but is stopped by a strong hand on his arm as soon as he reaches the doorway. He doesn’t turn, knowing it’s Yonghwa. “Jonghyun-ah.” His tone is friendly and not upset at all like Jonghyun expects it to be. He doesn’t say anything else, but Jonghyun soon feels his arms around him. It surprises him and he tenses for a moment, turning his head toward the older male.
“Hyung,” he starts, but before he can say anything else, Yonghwa shushes him. When Yonghwa lets him go a second later he finds himself being dragged by the hand into the bedroom, the leader shutting the door behind them. “Hyung?” He asks this time, unsure what’s even going on now.
Before he can process what’s happening, he finds himself pushed against the door, Yonghwa’s hands against the wood on either side of his head. Neither of them says anything for a few minutes and then Yonghwa drops his hands again suddenly, taking a few steps back. “It was nice to hear your voice on camera,” he says nonchalantly, as though playing it off like nothing just happened.
“It was nice to have a chance to talk,” Jonghyun can’t help but retort, though a smile creeps it’s way onto his lips. “Was there something else you wanted to tell me?” He can tell that Yonghwa hasn’t said all that he needed to, especially since he was now pacing in small circles.
With that question, though, Yonghwa stops and Jonghyun hears a soft sigh come from the older male. He gives him a curious look, tilting his head just a bit in an attempt to look in the other guitarist’s eyes, but when Yonghwa does meet his gaze, all he finds there is confusion. “Yonghwa?” He tries, but his tone still holds a bit of fear in it, fear and confusion himself for what might come of this impromptu meeting.
It was a few moments later that the elder of them did anything, once again suddenly stepping up in front of him and even before Jonghyun can react, his lips are pressed against Yonghwa’s. It’s a soft kiss, gentle, yet he can somehow tell all of the emotions the leader had bottled up inside.
“Hyung,” he whispers once Yonghwa pulls away. He doesn’t really know what else to say, his own heart beat rapidly in his chest. “How… long?” is all he manages to get out, his hand lifting to touch his lips, already missing the other’s touch.
“That… doesn’t matter.” Yonghwa’s voice is quiet, his breath hot against Jonghyun’s lips as he speaks, and he doesn’t even notice until it’s too late that his hand is coming up to his hair, his fingers pushing the dark locks away from his face. “I have had far too many dreams and fantasies about you recently for me to ignore,” he continues.
“That’s why you want to hear my voice, hyung?”
“Not just that. I hate thinking that you’re being left out. I care a lot about you, Jonghyun, I want you to… to be a part of the group.” The care resounding in the other’s voice tugs just a little too hard at Jonghyun’s heart, his stomach feeling almost nervous as he lifts his hand to touch Yonghwa’s cheek.
“I am a part of the group. As… as long I can sing with you and play my guitar, I am a part of the group,” he assures the leader, leaning in to kiss him again with a small smile playing on his lips, the first real smile he’s had for a long time. “Now what was that about those dreams?”
