“Do you remember when we used to run along the shore and make sand castles when we were younger, Shiwon?” Sungmin asks the younger boy sitting next to him as the cold ocean tide comes in close and hits his toes. He curls them in the cool sand, tightening the embrace around his knees and leaning his head against Shiwon’s shoulder padded by his jacket.
“Of course I do.” Shiwon smiles, placing a kiss on the top of Sungmin’s blonde hair then resting his cheek against it as he wraps his arm around the smaller boy and holds him close. “Do you miss those times?”
“Of course I do.” Sungmin answers quietly and, dropping one hand to the ground, he starts to draw mindless designs in the sand. They sit in silence for a bit, the cool ocean breeze continuing to hit both of them lightly. Shiwon thinks back to the years when he and Sungmin and their parents lived in an apartment together. He was eight at the time, Sungmin just a few months older than he and their parents were business partners who owned a little smoothie shop along the shore. He really misses those days as well, the days when neither of them had anything but themselves to worry about, free to do whatever they wanted as long as their parents approved.
“Sungmin-hyung.” Shiwon says suddenly and quietly as he comes out of his reminiscent reverie to get the attention of the older boy. Sungmin glances up at him, his eyes wide with curiosity along with the adoration that was always there when they were together. Shiwon takes a hold of the older boy’s hand as he stands up from his seat.
“Where’re we-” Sungmin tries to ask, but his words are cut off as Shiwon runs a straight line into the incoming tide, pulling Sungmin along after him and throwing aside all worries they may have had of whether their clothes would get wet or how they might possibly get sick or someone would find them out here together this late at night. Shiwon stops abruptly and turns, scooping up a handful of water and before Sungmin could completely catch up to his lover, the younger boy tossed the cold sea water onto Sungmin’s face catching him completely off guard.
Shiwon can’t help but laugh out loud at the look of surprise on his boyfriend’s face before running a few feet away as the surprise turns to a smirk and soon both of them are chasing the other with water and sand and a certain happiness neither of them have felt for a long time. Suddenly Shiwon’s foot hits a rock and he trips, falling into Sungmin in front of him and they both laugh it off as they move up the shore out of the water once again. “Are you alright?” Sungmin asks, slight concern lacing his voice as he crawls up in front of the younger boy, but Shiwon just nods his head and knows he’ll be fine. A smile crosses his lips as he sees Sungmin sitting in front of him on all fours and he leans forward to give the older boy a small peck on the lips before laying back on the sand, his arms and legs spread. Sungmin gives him a knowing smile and whispers a quiet “sand angels” as he scoots up to straddle Shiwon’s torso and Shiwon nods slightly.
Sungmin leans down to gently press his lips against Shiwon’s and the younger boy knows that both of them will remember this night long into the month, even when they are both back at work or dealing with whatever problems will be nagging them then. But for now he lets himself go with a sigh, letting Sungmin’s taste intoxicate him as his body melts under the touches of the older boy’s finger tips against his chest.
