15: 6th Target, James Patterson
I think this was my favorite so far of the Women's Murder Club
16: 7th Heaven, James Patterson
Not as good as six. Too many predictable bits of evidence. Although, the ending did surprise me. I'm number 184 on the waiting list at the Phoenix Public Library for the 8th book in the series.
17: Go Ask Alice, Anon.
Ok, this book was phenomenal. Its plot is based around a teenager girls complicated relationship with drugs. Foremost, its fascinating, because it describes drug use in ways I'd not imagine, especially since I'm not a drug user. It seemed to go with the 70s hippies and rainbows, theme, but showed the darker uglier side of the issue. In some scenes, it glamorizes drug use, so I wouldn't use it in the classroom. However, in the next scene her life shatters again because of the drugs. Turbulent. I loved it. First of all the title is amazing, because I immediately caught the reference to the song and knew what it would be about. Its haunting really. I liked the diary format. I was dissatisfied with the ending. I felt like it just didn't fit. There was not enough falling action in the plot to come to that resolution. It was first copywritten in 1971. I got it at Borders last weekend.
18: Because I am Furniture, Thalia Chaltas
Written in the new fad as a verse novel, I felt encumbered with the emotions of the teenage girl who felt no different than a couch in her abusive home. She was jealous of her siblings who were physically abused, because it meant they earned more attention from their father. She was the silent unnoticed one. Through her involvement in school sports, volleyball, she was able to find her voice and person and speak up about the acts that she was witnessing.
It hit a little too close to home, and I wondered which character I could relate to more, furniture girl, or her older sister who was the one getting the beatings. I saw pictures of my family in this book, and it made me cry.
*****On a sidebar, I read books 17 and 18 in one sitting each, they were that enthralling. For that matter, I also read book 15 in one sitting.*****
It is clear that reading books is a detriment to my sleep health.
