Well geez, how did I end up in this position? Heh, sounds easy enough to answer doesn't it but I'm really not sure where to start. Guess I'll just make a stab at it.
I guess deep down I've always wanted to do something like this but I've always though I couldn't or it would cost too much. Now? Well I'm signed up so there's no going back. I guess I should tel you what this is all about. Well I've signed myself up for the 2012 Arctic Challenge to help raise money for the St Mungo charity for the homeless.
It all started the other day when I went shopping with my mum in town. Nice day, enjoyable really. Was planning on getting some shoes but I didn't find any that were good. Well anyway, on the way back to the car my mum buys a magazine called the Big Issue from a street seller. The magazine hires jobless and homeless people to sell it so they can make money, very good stuff. Anyway, inside the mag was an add advertising the expedition and I just kinda paused, turned to my mum and said 'I'm going to do this!'
I think she was as shocked as I was but she's right behind me. Heh! Only a few weeks ago I was saying I wanted to move to Canada so I could do dog sledding and here is my chance while I'm still in the UK. So yeah. The expedition is a 200km mush across Lapland with a team of husky dogs.
I have until March 2012 to raise the sponsorship money required and then I'll be off to the frozen wastes to have some fun. Kinda amazing really. I've never really done anything big for charity before but not only this a good cause its also going to be good fun. I've already got a few fund raising ideas so I'm going to see how it goes. It all starts tomorrow. Wish me luck!
