New character...

Mar 16, 2007 01:07

Name: Alexander "Alex" Sanders
Age: 28
Sex: Male

Appearance: Kind of geeky, often distracted. Fingers tend to be ink-stained. Pale, somewhat messy brown hair. Average height and build. Tends to dress without care for style, matching together a variety of items that look like thrift store special. Often has a distracted appearance as he's thinking of something.

Special abilities or quirks(this is where you would put if your character is a supernatural being, and what that entails): Vampire with your standard vampire package. However, he is a bit delusional and doesn't believe he is a vampire - he thinks he is a 'super hero with mutant vampiric powers'. See character background

Personality: Alex is generally geeky and mild-mannered until he dons the costume. Then he becomes The Crimson Shadow - a witty, costumed crusader for the forces of justice. At least, in his own mind. He also tends to be somewhat clumsy. Never curses.

Temperament: Only eats the bad guys. Usually pretty even tempered. Not too excitable.

Character background: brief history of the character.
Alexander Sanders had a fairly average childhood. His mother was a teacher, and his father was a mailman. He had two older sisters, a dog named Mr. Biggles. He got B's and C's in most subjects, except for writing and art, which he always aced. As a pre-teen, he became fascinated with comics. By the time he entered highschool, he had quite the collection - and was starting to draw series of his own. In college, where he studied creative writing and design, he began drawing a series called The Crimson Shadow which appeared in their school lit mag and paper on a regular basis. He started self-publishing indie comics and distributing them about this time.

Relationship wise, he had a hard time making connections. He had some dates, a brief thing or two - but potential romantic partners were kind of driven off by his geekiness and the great love he had for his comic. He identified with his character perhaps a bit too much, often dressing as The Crimson Shadow for 'zine and comic conventions, and joining a live action roleplaying game where he could portray his creation.

The Crimson Shadow's powers were derived from the shadows, and the light of the sun would harm and weaken him. Prolonged exposure to sunlight would cause him to smolder, and burn - a fact often exploited by his enemies. The Crimson shadow drew evildoers he caught into the shadows, where he feed upon their life force in order to sustain his power. It was a curse that he had to live with - knowing that he must take human life (however evil) in order to maintain his abilities for the good of humanity.

A vampire reading this comic series though the cosmic irony was too good to pass up - and stalked Alex, kidnapping him at a convention while he was dressed as the Crimson Shadow then turning him into a vampire. Alex has blocked that night out of his memory, however.

What he believes happened was this - he awoke in an alley not knowing how he got there, wearing the costume and feeling a terrible hunger. He heard a woman's scream, and saw that she was being mugged. He rose from the shadows, reached out and with super human shadow strength drew the mugger back into the shadows with him, then fed from his 'life force'. It was a lot more bloody than he'd originally written into the comic - but Alex knew immediately what had happened. He had become The Crimson Shadow! Because he'd written about his character so realistically, and identified with him so strongly, the creator had become the creation. (Really though, he's just your run of the mill vampire. But don't tell him that.)

Alex has a human assistant named Nica who handles his affairs during the daytime. He maintains his 'secret identity' of mild-mannered Alex Sanders, a comic and freelance writer. But whenever there is trouble (and whenever he gets hungry, he goes looking for trouble) - The Crimson Shadow can be found.

He's come to Marquette looking to get his comic distributed in the local comic shop here, as he is traveling around the country at the moment looking for retailers who want to carry his series.

Preferred PB (played-by): Matthew Gray Gubler

Two writing samples: third person past tense scene and first person journal entry, please make them for the character you are applying for.

The Crimson Shadow stalked his prey - a drug dealer that had been peddling his foul poison to the local populous for far too long. Like a fluid graceful shadow, he moved languidly through the night - taking his time, watching the every move of the foul creature that no longer deserved life. He waited for the moment to be right... every mussel in his body tensed as he sprung forth around the corner--- colliding messily with a stop sign. "Ow!" cried Alex, in a very un-Crimson-like voice. "Who the heck put this here? Stupid street. Stupid sign." How was he supposed to protect the citizenry if they couldn't keep their signs out of his way?

Well, this looks like a nice town. A good place for me to get some rest and relaxation, before the next time CS is needed. I hope the comic shop here will distribute my story! We've been making pretty good sales - it's rather encouraging. I still hope that someday a major publishing house will pick us up. But that's not the most important thing anymore. It can't be. I'm on a mission. I have a destiny. I must have had some sort of precognitive powers, to write about my destiny before I even knew I had it. Pretty darn cool.
