[PROLOGUE] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6A] [6B] [7] [8] [9] [Interlude 1] Another bar, another district, another city. Same lights, same smoke, same kind of people. Saga's dark eyes looked for potential... prey. He hated calling them that, but what else could they be? Certainly not lovers, no, that was too intimate a term. He hunted these humans and fed on their lust - yes, they were his prey.
He smiled as a young man with smooth black hair falling over his eyes hair sat next to him, eyeing him with great interest. His features were almost feminine but he had a tall, lean build, making it impossible to mistake him for anything but a male.
Saga smiled at him and introduced himself. The game of seduction began once more.
It had been a month. A month since he discovered Reita's betrayal. A month since Shou saved him. A month since he kissed Tora and at the same time, rejected him. He could still recall the way that Tora's mouth moved against his, as gentle as a lover's, and perfectly fitting against his own.
But he still could not bring himself to admit how much he wanted Tora. His fear of getting hurt again overrode his desire for the older incubus.
He had been avoiding Tora as much as he could, along with the other incubi. He hated the looks that he got from them - Reita's trial had been a huge thing and everyone had been interested.
He knew that they despised him for having been taken in, and a few pitied him, suspecting that he had had a lonely and miserable childhood - and those were only the cambions and part-humans. But they were far outnumbered, and living through all their nasty remarks and disdain had not been easy.
Then Reita, being the son of a high ranking duchess, had been sentenced to only house arrest for twenty years, allowed to step into the mortal realm solely for sustenance. Saga was also warded that he and Reita would never be in the same city in the mortal realm. Some thought this punishment appropriate, since Saga was only a cambion.
And yet others thought he should have received a lighter sentence, since Saga was only a cambion, prince or not.
Saga found he couldn't care anymore. He didn't want to. He was sick and tired of the games the demons loved playing, the politics of the court. He couldn't leave even if he wanted to.
Well, he could, but he was sure his mother would never allow her son to leave the Underground for a life in the mortal realm.
"Saga?" his prey - he couldn't even remember his name - said in his ear, stroking his bare back. "You okay?"
"Yes," Saga whispered. "Fuck me."
Escape. Saga needed to escape.
-
When Saga returned to the Underground, he saw Aoi chatting with Tora, both of them in seemingly high spirits. Tora laughed, and it sounded wonderfully intoxicating. It was like music to Saga's ears.
He realised that he had never heard Tora laugh before.
"Saga!" Tora said, turning to Saga. "I'm glad you're back. I was waiting for you, I wanted to talk to you."
He gave Saga a hopeful smile, and he realised how much he had missed seeing those lips curve up in such a sweet smile. He could not help but smile back.
"Hey. I guess we can talk. Come on," he said softly.
Tora followed him back to his rooms. The walk back to his home was oddly quiet, but then again most of the demons were out in the mortal realm wreaking havoc. Yet it was a comfortable kind of silence, where nothing had to be said.
"Here we are. So... well... why do you want to talk to me?" Saga asked, as they reached the doors of his chambers.
Tora took a silver chain from his pocket, with a small silver disc hanging from it. The disc was inlaid with several gemstones in the shape of a star's five points, with a glittering diamond in the middle. It glowed with power, that much was obvious.
"Saga, this is for you. I never got the chance to give it to you after... well... last time. This is to protect you from curses and malicious energy. It warms up when there is a malicious demon nearby, and... well... if you need me, just touch it and say my name, and I will be there as soon as I can. I have a matching one here," Tora explained shyly, fishing out his own from under his shirt.
Saga blushed red, and took it. Tora helped him to wear it, and he felt Tora's hand caress his neck and hands, gentle and warm. His touches were completely innocent, and Saga appreciated it.
"Tora... thank you so much. Nobody... has ever cared so much for me. Thank you," Saga whispered, unable to stop the tears falling from his eyes.
Tora reached out a hand and brushed away his tears, saying nothing. Saga sniffed and turned away, biting his lip. "I'm sorry. But I really appreciate your gift."
"You're welcome, Saga," Tora said quietly, smiling encouragingly at him.
"Tora? Why do you care so much?" Saga mumbled.
"Despite Shou, despite my father, despite everything else, I think I've fallen in love with you. I want to make you happy. I know Reita broke your heart, but I want to heal that wound and see you smile for me," Tora said sincerely, looking into Saga's eyes.
Saga shook his head. "Shou would kill us. He's possessive."
"I don't want to care anymore," Tora said quietly. "And no one has to know."
He leaned in hesitantly, catching Saga's lips in a gentle kiss. Saga kissed him back, relishing the feel of Tora's warm lips on his again. Tora was unbelievably gentle with him. It was like and yet unlike their first kiss, and Saga loved them both.
He parted his lips, deepening the kiss, feeling their tongues and lips once again move in that perfect rhythm together. The rush of warmth that Saga felt in him was comforting and at the same time, all too familiar. Suddenly frightened, Saga pulled away, breathing rapidly.
"Saga?" Tora whispered. "Did I do something wrong?"
"Not you. Me. I can't... I can't do this yet. And I don't want to be a secret, Tora. Please don't make me. Face it, Tora. We can't be together. I don't want to offend Shou. I don't want to see you get hurt because of Shou," Saga mumbled, stepping back.
"I'm sorry," Tora said, looking lost.
Saga shook his head, feeling numb now. "Don't be. Please. Go."
Tora nodded, staring at him again before he turned away. Saga watched him leave, his heart aching with every step that Tora now took away from him.
Sorry this was so late! Not at home and I don't work very well with laptops. D: Hope you like it anyway~ <3
