A/N: The first mini-series! Most of you wanted ShouxHiroto + daughter!fic so this one is for all of you :D

Shou, in general, did not precisely love children. Neither did he hate them - most of the time, he was indifferent to them. He was too busy to care about kids most of the time anyway, and since even little children seemed to fear and revere him in equal amounts, he had never faced trouble from them.

He had never really envisioned himself being a father, though. Sure, he would have to produce an heir when he became King of the Underground, but really, that would not pass for about four centuries. An heir could wait for a very long time.

Never, ever, had he expected to become a father at the tender age of twenty-seven. In about twelve hours, he would be picking up his adopted daughter. He had not even been the one to decide this. Rather, it had been his lover (and consort-to-be) who brought it up first. He was not sure he was ever going to forgive Hiroto for that.

"Hey Shou. You can't sleep?"

Shou looked down at Hiroto, curled up against him, in his arms. A small, comforting smile played on his lips and his eyes were bright.

"Mm. You can't either?" Shou sighed.

"I think I'm too excited," Hiroto laughed softly.

"Oh."

Hiroto stroked his jaw. "What's the matter, Shou?"

"I'm worried," Shou replied uncertainly. "Hiroto, are you completely sure that this is the right thing to do? Adopting... Celin?"

Hiroto raised an eyebrow and said in a clipped voice, "Her name is Cein."

"Right, Cein, sorry," Shou sighed. "Look at me, I can't even get my new daughter's name right! I'm going to be a horrible father. Maybe she would have been better off with another family, how can I ever be a decent dad?"

Hiroto gently caressed Shou's lips. "Love, I think that we would know better than anyone else about abuse. I don't want Cein to be abused for what her brothers did. Everyone knows that she got disowned by the clan by mere association, and I heard some people saying that she'd grow up to be as bad as Byou and Jin just because she's their sister. Some say she should have died - an innocent child, Shou! And others say that we will grow to regret it."

Shou sighed again. "But us? Really? Do you think we can really make it?"

"Yes. Definitely. I will ensure that she grows up in a safe, loving environment, not like me or Saga," Hiroto replied quietly.

Shou's cheeks burned red with shame, and he turned away. He looked back at Hiroto when he felt his gentle lips on his neck, and mumbled a quick apology, remorse over his childhood actions overwhelming him.

"No, I was thoughtless. I'm sorry, Shou," Hiroto murmured. "Look, you've changed, Shou. And you're going to be a great father. I know it. So don't worry so much, all right? You are going to be just fine."

Hiroto then climbed up onto Shou's chest, rocking his body against his slowly. Shou closed his eyes, loving the feel of Hiroto's skin against his, the very love in this act. This was not lust, but simply an act of comfort and reassurance for them. "I hope so, Hiroto."

Hiroto smiled at him, and leaned down to suck gently on his neck. Shou gasped out softly, and mumbled, "You know, Hiroto, I just realised that we can't - ahh - be as loud as we usually are after - mm - tonight."

Shou let out a whine of displeasure as his lover raised his head, smirking devilishly. "Good point. Shall I get on with it, then?"

The crown prince smirked back. "Yes, please."

Shou and Hiroto made their way to the Feuris clan headquarters the next afternoon. Shou, though he was inside the carriage, could hear the carrying whispers from many of the other demons. He hoped he could prove all of them wrong, and that adopting Cein was the right thing to do.

Once they reached the headquarters, they were shown to the visitors' hall. The Feuris clan was clearly wealthy, but they did not show it off. The furniture were made of sturdy wood, polished and crafted well, and the marble floor gleamed brown and white. There were several murals, the primary colour scheme being red. After all, they were the Feuris clan, all of the members at least half fire demon.

"I see that you are enjoying some of our finest artwork, Your Highness," a woman's clear, gentle voice said.

Shou and Hiroto turned to her. She had long orange hair streaked with red, and her eyes burned red, though her features were gentle and her lips curved upwards in a smile. She wore robes of red and black, her clan crest prominent upon her robes.

"Good afternoon, Lady Ilosia," Shou and Hiroto greeted.

Ilosia curtseyed. "Welcome to my clan. I understand your purpose here, but I have a question. Are you very, very sure that you wish to adopt Cein? Why not simply let her be raised among the Queen's subjects?"

"Yes, we are utterly certain," Shou said. "Lady Ilosia, we do not wish to see an innocent child suffer for the misdeeds of her family. She is innocent, and I feel that we are most capable of taking care of her."

"She would almost definitely suffer in the hands of others. Not even the Queen's subjects are forgiving. I am sure that you know yourself of the cruelty of demons," Hiroto added, with a sweet, charming smile.

Ilosia looked somewhat disconcerted, and said quickly, "Very well. Saryl, bring Cein here."

Her maid walked off quickly, disappearing into a corridor. Hiroto continued to smile, though more genuinely now, and Shou simply looked cool and purposeful.

"Well, Lady Ilosia, are there any traits of Cein's we ought to know about more? Jin told us that she is a very excitable and talented child," Hiroto inquired cheerfully.

"Ah... I fear that Jin's words are a bit of an understatement. Cein is... a good girl, very sweet and obedient. But she is hyperactive and yes, very excitable. When her emotions run extremely high, however, her powers get a little out of control," Ilosia responded.

"I'm sorry, a little out of control?" Shou asked, raising an eyebrow.

Ilosia gave a faint smile. "You see, Your Highness, Cein is a pure fire demoness, and is actually Jin's half-sister. So her powers are naturally stronger in that aspect. Cein, when overly excited, can actually raise the temperature of the area, and when angry, she can unconsciously set things on fire. Don't worry too much, however. She does not get that way often at all, and these periods usually last a very short while for we have been teaching her to control her abilities."

Well, Shou could live with that. He vaguely recalled being far worse as a child, even before Saga was born.

"Lady, you sound very fond of Cein. Why give her up at all?" Hiroto asked with a frown.

Ilosia shook her head regretfully. "I did not want to, but the clan council demanded it. I was one of only two council members who wanted to keep and raise her, the other being the child's teacher. The other council members were adamant that she be disowned, lest she bring shame to the clan for what her brothers did. Yet... you may be better parents. She would be bullied more even by the other children, and with no one to protect her... her life here would not be happy."

"I understand," Hiroto said quietly, and Shou echoed the sentiment.

Just then, he suddenly felt warmer, and looked at Ilosia. She looked apologetic, and the very next second, a little girl with pale blonde hair, tinted red like her brothers' and gleaming amber eyes burst into the room, a flustered Saryl right behind her. She beamed up at Ilosia and ran to her, jumping onto her lap and sitting on it. Then she surveyed Shou and Hiroto, eyes wide with a sweet smile on her face.

"Cein, what did I say about controlling your powers?" Ilosia said sternly, though not without some fondness.

"Oh, I'm really sorry! Aunt Ilosia, are they going to be my fathers?" Cein asked brightly, the temperature dropping back to normal.

Hiroto smiled at her, walking to her. He crouched down and reached out a hand. "Hello, Cein! I'm your father, now, along with Prince Shou," he chuckled.

Cein did not take his hand, but rather, she flung her arms around his neck, giggling. "Papa! Are you a prince, too? Am I a princess now?"

Shou walked up to Cein, too, and smiled at her. He had to admit, she was a very cute little girl. "He's my consort to be. And yes, you're going to be a princess."

"Can I call you Daddy?" Cein asked shyly, looking at him with wide, admiring eyes.

"Of course, honey," Shou laughed.

A moment later, he felt her small arms wrap around his shoulders, a laugh bubbling from her lips. "Daddy! Daddy!"

Surprisingly, Shou thought, the way she was calling him "daddy" was cute, and definitely did not make him feel old, as he had secretly feared. He smiled at his daughter - yes, his and Hiroto's little girl, now, their princess - and picked her up carefully.

"Why don't we go home now?" Shou asked.

"Okay!" Cein replied. "Is the palace really very big?"

"Sure it is!" Hiroto responded on Shou's behalf, beaming. "Bigger than you could imagine, I think. Yeah? You want to see it?"

"Yes, Papa!" Cein laughed, reaching out to hold tug Hiroto's hair playfully. "Ooh, you're shorter than me from up here!"

Shou smiled at her again, stroking her hair, and looked at Ilosia. "Farewell, then, Lady Ilosia."

Ilosia smiled a little sadly. "Farewell, Your Highness."

Oh god Cein is so hyperactive and cute I totally have an image of her in my brain now :D And yay Shou being a dad! XD Also, if anybody is wondering about the title, "Crown" references Shou being the Crown Prince, and "Jewel" 'cause the name Cein means 'jewelled' :)
