Life settled into a sort of routine, an easy-to-follow rhythm that everyone quickly got used to.

The first month was the simplest - and yet, the hardest. Tora's heart never stopped cracking just a little more, with every moment he spent with Saga. His (ex?) lover remained childlike, and the three mages did a good job of warding him. They took turns with Tora to guard Saga, and they returned to the Underground every few days to update the Queen on Saga's condition.

Shou and Hiroto brought back reports from the Underground. Neither Byou nor Jin budged an inch when it came to answering questions since the first day. Byou remained violent and constantly taunted them, while Jin was always silent. However, Shou mentioned that Yuuto had tried to talk to Jin, only to walk away in tears. They found Jin curled up and struggling not to cry in his cell, but still he refused to speak.

There was no progress on the case, and none of the Queen's mages could find a magical link that bound the brothers to their master, nor were they able to force them to speak the truth. No one wanted to end up like Saga, and they were apprehensive when dealing with Byou and Jin. The pair were just as skilled in magic as the mages, and more often than not, the Queen's mages walked away injured from a minor curse.

That month, Tora kept reminding Saga to be careful not to reveal their identities as demons, and Saga listened. He was always childlike - as sweet and innocent as any young boy. The only indication that he had any demon blood at all was in his eyes, burning with red fire. Tora concealed that easily with a simple glamour, and Saga's human friends were none the wiser.

Most mornings, Saga would wake up and they would end up spending the morning in the cafe, where everyone treated him carefully. There was always a slight pall over the cafe, now that something like this had happened, but it was hard to remain completely upset when Saga was so utterly cheerful, and at times, he seemed to remember a little of the cafe - the sights and smells, saying that they reminded him of something he could not remember. Those moments were few and far between, though.

On weekend afternoons, when Miku and Kanon weren't working, they invited Saga over to play games and have dinner. Otherwise, Tora and Saga spent the day at home, watching television together, playing video games or simply going out to the city and walking around. Saga showed no signs of improving, but neither did his condition appear to deteriorate.

Tora never really got completely used to Saga's childlike behaviour, unable to stop himself from recalling the days before the assault. His only consolation was that Saga was happy. He was no longer haunted by old doubts and insecurities, and the memories of being betrayed by Reita.

Tora, however, grew steadily weaker as the month went on. He remained utterly faithful to Saga, but for his kind, he could not afford to go without feeding on sex for more than a few weeks. The fact that he had held out for an entire month was already quite a feat.

He fainted one evening, the moment he and Saga returned from Kanon and Miku's apartment. He heard Saga's cry of terror, a cry that sounded alarmingly like his real voice, before everything went black.

When he awoke, it was in his bed. Saga lay next to him, face peaceful, while Iv and Ko-ki stood at the side, relief in their faces as he awoke. "What happened?" he croaked.

"You fainted. You haven't been feeding this whole month, have you?" Iv replied, sounding exasperated.

"No. I... I can't. Not when Saga..." Tora trailed off, looking away.

Ko-ki sighed. "Look, Tora, you can't just stop your normal activities just because Saga regressed to a child's age. You need your strength - you've got to feed. Saga wouldn't want you to kill yourself over him. Do you know that when you fainted, he screamed and, for a moment, returned to his real self? He commanded us to tell you to do whatever you had to in order to survive before he fainted as well."

Tora's eyes widened. "What?"

Iv nodded, a grim smile on his face. "The two of you have a special bond. It's almost telepathic, in a way. Tora, you're really the only one who can help Saga out, so please, do take care of yourself, okay? You have to, for him."

So, once every week afterwards, he would slip out when he knew Saga was deeply asleep, and find some human to seduce and feed on. It kept him sufficiently strong, as much as he hated to do it. He wasn't sure how Saga would take the news that he had been fucking other humans when he was in his state of child.

That was the only change for the second month of Saga's regression.

Sometime in the third month, however, Saga began to wake up screaming every few nights. Tora always woke up a split second before it happened, just in time to hold Saga tightly to him and reassure him that everything was all right. Saga's eyes were no longer childlike in these moments - instead indescribable pain and horror were reflected in them.

"Tora.... Tora, help me, please... It hurts, Tora. It hurts," Saga whispered, every time he awoke. "I don't want to go back... I want to be me again... Tora, help me!"

Tora never knew just how he could. He knew Saga was the real Saga - the Saga who had been betrayed and assaulted by Reita and Jin, the Saga who had been loved by Tora himself - in these moments, yet all he could do was hold him tightly and try to calm him down. The mages would rush in, unable to help, and then Saga would slip away, suddenly becoming limp in his arms.

When he woke up in the morning, he had no recollection of what had happened the night before, and Tora thought his heart broke a little more every time that happened.

A tiny part of him wanted Saga to remain carefree and happy, but the bigger part of him knew that it would only cause Saga to hurt more in the end. He could see that this regression was really a defense against the pain he had suffered, and the longer it went on, the worse it would get. It just hurt him to see Saga in pain.

No matter what, however, he was determined to take care of Saga.

The months dragged on. The rhythm of life was almost a constant - the hours spent at the cafe, the gaming, the meaningless sex on Tora's part, and even Saga's night terrors. Tora was getting used to that, and every day, he hoped that Saga would soon return to normal.

There was little progress on Byou and Jin, who were still being locked up and interrogated. No one could force answers out of them, it seemed as though they were hell bent on protecting their master's secrets. Shou and Hiroto were highly dispirited over this, and they had even fought several times over the lack of progress. It took them a few hours to make up, and Tora had to tell them to keep it down in the guest room as Saga slept.

Everyone seemed to be accepting this bouncy, childlike Saga who had long lost his reserve. A few of his friends did not seem to believe that he would be able to return to normal, while Tora's hope only increased with each passing day.

The hope kept him sane for several months.

At the end of six, almost seven months, however, Yuuto returned to the apartment at night just as Tora had tucked Saga into bed. His eyes were red and puffy, and Shou and Hiroto followed behind him. Both looked shocked, and Hiroto, more than a little scared.

"What happened?" Tora asked, eyes glittering.

Yuuto gave a weary sigh. His eyes met Iv's and Ko-ki's, and the two young mages gasped in shock. Tora repeated his question, holding Saga's hand tightly. Then, Ko-ki turned to him, his usually bright demeanour giving way to one of grimness.

"Jin broke. He confessed who their masters were. It's your father, Tora. Duke Asmodeus. Along with... the demon Reita."

And Saga woke up screaming.

So... many of your suspicions were right. Asmodeus and Reita were the masterminds. There's more to it than meets the eye though, trust me. Until the next update~ See you ;)
