So with the budget situation in the lab not being as bad as I feared (though we still are forbidden to order anything, we also still seem to be keeping ourselves in basic supplies) I've turned my attention to things I am looking forward to -- and few things more then the upcoming movie
How to Train Your Dragon.
It's actually based on a children's book by Cressida Cowell that I'd heard of, the first of a long series. It's a fanciful look at a Viking culture that revolves around the taming and training of dragons -- while the movie revolves around the fighting of dragons.
But probably the single most awesome element of the book WAS left in the movie...
The Green Death.
Most of the dragons of this world are dangerous but manageable. The Green Death is an entirely different beast. A cross between Godzilla and the Joker -- a monstrous dragon that simply wants to devour the world. And insists that the world serenade it while being devoured, because there isn't enough beauty in it! He had probably the best lines in the entire book:
Hiccup: I have come to find out whether you come in PEACE or in WAR.
The Green Death: Oh, peace, I think. *pauses* I am going to kill you, though...and everyone else when I've had a little nap and got my appetite back.
Hiccup: I've heard of singing for your supper...but what is a Singing Supper?
The Green Death: A good question...the thing is, we are all, in a sense, supper. Walking, talking, breathing suppers, that's what we are. Take you, for instance. YOU are about to be eaten by ME, so that makes YOU supper. That's obvious. But even a murderous carnivore such as myself will be a supper for worms one day. We're all snatching precious moments from the peaceful jaws of time. (cheerfully) That's why it's important for the supper to sing as beautifully as it can.
I doubt the Green Death of the movie will wax quite so poetic, but he'll be a helluva an incentive for a newly minted, ragtag group of dragonriders to band together and prove cooperating with dragons has its benefits!
Not to mention that Toothless seems a very close cross between
tekaril and
mirrdae . :)
I so am looking forward to this movie.
