How quiet the chamber is...

The days are perceptibly becoming longer. It’s no longer dark at 5pm, and it hit 50 degrees today. Of course I know there is still a lot of winter that we’ll need to get through before we can really say that spring has arrived. In fact, just by writing about this in January I’m dooming myself to a really miserable February, weather-wise.

I took off from work on Wednesday last week to get treasurer stuff done for Oriole. It was a pretty productive day, and I took the opportunity to bring the dogs to Soldiers Delight. It was a super exciting hike, because Lucy discovered a deer leg just a few yards into the walk. There were also some really interesting ice formations that had developed along one of the streams, but neither of the dogs were impressed by them.

I’ve been enjoying my kindle a whole lot. Gaer came by this past weekend and brought her laptop with her entire e-book library. I went from having a dozen books on my kindle to having almost 100! I also figured out how to have Amazon convert PDFs for free so I can read them on the kindle. The formatting doesn’t convert perfectly, but it’s not bad. The book I’m reading now was one I downloaded as a text file and transferred directly to the kindle. The formatting for that one is a little wonky too, but still readable.

Tigs and I finished watching John Adams. I had several thoughts. First I think it’s funny that the miniseries was based on a book by David McCullough, not based on the life of John Adams. Second, I am very glad I live in the early 21st Century. The late 18th and early 19th centuries looked cold, dark, and unpleasant. Third, as much as I respect John Adams and think of him as my favorite of the founding fathers, I don’t think I would have liked him much as a person. But then I’d expect that Mr. A wouldn’t be surprised or upset by that statement.
