For The Luvva Something, Leave It Alone
So, new Spider-Man. Again.
Last time, they up and decided that Spidey was generating the webs himself, and Green Goblin was in a really weird set of armor. Now they've put back the web-shooters, but decided that Parker is somehow connected to the creation of The Lizard and his dad was some big-deal scientist? Is his "spider bite" now an intentional injection (not sure, trailer wasn't clear)?
Seriously, is is so hard to just use the story that's there? If someone decided to do another Arthurian film, but change the story, there'd be outcry. Why stop there, why not change and update the story of Jesus? Why can't the Roman Caesars all be roller-blading, time-traveling hipsters? Perhaps Harriet Tubman was actually a man in drag, fighting against slavery and LGBT persecution, simultaneously. Maybe, just maybe, Mother Theresa was an operative for the Illuminati.
It's a pet peeve, a hot button for me. Yes, the above is hyperbolic, but the core is solid: why is it so difficult to use the story that is there and established and fine like it is?
And, really...Denis Leary? Ugh.
