Florida Student Tasered at Kerry Forum...HUH?

Maybe this should be tagged "Campus Cops Gone Wild".

It just amazes me that this can happen in our country. The crime for which this student was initially arrested/detained was exceeding his time allotment at the microphone. Why the cops were trying to arrest him was baffling by itself. But then they use a taser while he is subdued on the ground???

florida, taser, poltiics

Insane isn't it? I feel like we're well on the way to another Kent State.

I'm playing LoTRO in case you didn't know, Doc. At the Underguild forums (my guild) someone linked it and I mentioned how I think we're more complacent about authorities using excessive force, etc. Like someone said, Kerry's a big boy and if he didn't want to answer the question he could have simply declined to do so. But nope, they had to tazer a kid for speaking out of turn. I wonder if these rent-a-cops are recent fires from Judge Rotenberg Educational Center. I didn't generalize about cops in my post, I don't think I even mentioned them specifically in my criticism, but predictably enough a conservative guild member responded with (paraphrasing) "I don't know what you've been led to believe but not all cops are bad".

Baah aah aah!

I don't want to give the appearance that I'm holding the cops as the only party making mistakes here. The guy at some point should have recognized the authority being presented here and gone quietly.

If Jenn is right (see comment below) and this guy was only interested in making a scene (an idea I won't dismiss at all), then maybe this is a little more concocted than we realize.

I definitely don't buy into the whole "Senator Kerry should have stopped this" radical left talking point. This is just messy all around.

I'd just like to say that kid is a total moron. He's got a history of pulling pranks around here and recording them. He had someone set up to record this one too. He obviously knew he wasn't going to be able to continue on with his line of questioning and he instantly started yelling and putting on a total show for everyone. He was repeatedly warned and he repeatedly resisted officers. He was told he was going to be tased... he still fought back. This is just one asshole kid who wanted to make a scene and it worked. Sure the 6 cops could have (and should have) physically dragged him out of the room since he obviously wasn't going to cooperate. But do I think he was randomly tased out of nowhere for no reason? Nope. Who thinks they can go to any debate and start to ask asshole questions and monopolize the mic... and expect no response? And then to resist and resist and resist... Sorry but something is going to happen to you one way or another. People are acting like the kid asked a question and police instantly ran up and ( ... )

Interesting perspective. I agree that at some point he should have respected the authorities and gone quietly. I'm just not sure tasing him when he was on the ground and subdued was necessary.

It's a bit hard to tell from this 2 minutes worth of video what the entire picture and events surrounding this episode actually are. I am also not in agreement from what I can see here that kid was not trying to flip over and get out of the control of the police. He certainly was not cooperating with authorities. I just think it is a little early to say one way or the other if excessive force was used OR if the kid had it coming. I'm feeling a little confused also because it seems that I may have heard the taser gun on the tape, but the kid was awfully capable of walking and coherent afterwards within seconds of being hit. The whole point of what a taser gun does is to briefly paralyze you.

I was having breakfast w/friend @ the HomeTown Buffet. Bill, an Army Ranger, fondly recounted the many pranks he and his friends pulled on adults through their teenage years. One included hanging a dummy from a tree, swinging it down on an unsuspecting car, and running out screaming "Oh my God you killed him!"

The stuff he used to pull would earn his grandson a beating at the hands of authorities. Certainly jail time.
