Crime never sleeps but justice sometimes takes a nap
Old saying, not sure who said it. True to the point of pain.
Today's news: Boston: man gets awarded 3.5 million for being wrongfully convicted of rape.
Very mixed feelings about this...the justice system let down this person and he got convicted of a crime he did not commit. BUT how many cases are going to slip through the cracks because the city is afraid of being sued?
Nothing is more painful than to be a victim of a violent crime and then watching the person you know committed the crime walk away because of a technicality. Something as stupid as the hospital/lab contaminated the rape kit. What is even more painful is to find out that 8 months later the same person committed the same violent act and destroyed another life. Does it make you feel better to know that he was sent to jail or to feel worse that another innocent victim had to suffer because the system sometimes does not work.
Don't get me wrong...I feel sorry that an innocent man was sent to jail for rape but how many other rapist fall through the cracks. How many more will slip through because the city will not prosecute because they are afraid to get sued? If you tell me that this guy was convicted bacasue some woman lied or falsly accused and the judge or jury believed her on just her word, than you really need to wake up and face reality...doesn't work that way. Try telling that to a victim.
