Benjamin pulled the stake from his jacket.  No, he was Body Count in this instance, the terrifying entity that had always existed just on the edge of Kindred Society.  His hand was steady as he watched his target, that was a mistake, but only slightly.
"I was a Captain to...," BC quit listening to the babbling idiot and prepared himself for what had to be done.
"Yes, 'Body Count'," the beast within seemed to mock, "take him."
"This isn't for you," he spoke internally.  "I do this to better us all, as I have for decades now."
The beast reeled and subsided as BC looked his prey in the eye.
"Leave my city," the man proclaimed.  BC could feel the tug to obey the command on his consciousness.  He shook his head, the pathetic creatures tricks were of little use against the superior predator.
BC took a few steps and plunged the stake into his lesser's chest.  He could feel bone and muscle give, it was a sickening feel and in the end the creature's heart burst through the back of his broken ribcage.  BC stopped and with a sickening thud the lifeless body fell to the ground by him.
The beast meant to rise to take him, it meant to do many things, but the superior predator held it at bay.  The superior predator won today, but didn't know if it could win this war, but it had this battle.
