A/N- Wow. I typed this in like 30 minutes! It all just flowed! Okay, this one has a little bit of blood towards the end, and some (funny, probably) Archie screaming. Well, i still can't get the cut to work, even with nightingale's help... I'm beginning to think it does not like me :,( So until I figure it out, I'll just give a link.
-START-
At last they pulled into Cook’s driveway and pulled to a stop. “I’m gonna run inside real quick and just change out of my jeans. Do you want to stay in the car?”
“Uh, no thank you!” David said as he was already opening the door and stepping outside. Cook laughed and got out as well.
“I guess I should have known the answer to that one,” he said as he opened the front door and stepped inside, closing it behind David. “Make yourself at home. I’ll be in my bedroom if you need anything” David nodded and Cook turned and left the room.
David looked around the nice, cozy looking living room. His eyes fell upon the mantle above the fireplace. He kicked off his shoes and walked over to look at the rows of pictures sitting atop the mantle. The first picture was a family photo that looked to of been taken quite recently. Cook sat in the middle of his parents and siblings, all wearing the exact same bright smile. He smiled and moved on to the second picture.
This one was a picture of his parents at their wedding. They looked so happy, David thought. The third picture was of Cook and his brother, Andrew. Cook had his little brother in a head-lock, while Andrew was thrashing his arms about trying to get out of his older, stronger brothers hold. David giggled at this one. He was about to look at the fourth one when a loud bang reverberated through the house, coming from the kitchen, which was the opposite direction in which Cook went.
David backed away from the mantle and edged towards the hall in which Cook had gone down. “Hey, Cook? Cook, is that you?” He called.
No answer.
He turned back towards the kitchen door. Just then, another bang, this time much louder, sounded from the kitchen, causing David to jump. “Coooook!!!” David yelled a bit louder.
Still no answer.
He was about to call again when something caught his eye. He looked over at the window just in time to see a body disappear into the small cover of trees. It had been quick, but there was no mistaking what he saw. He all but screamed this time, “COOOOOOOOOK!!!” and made a mad dash to the hall to go find Cook.
As he reached the door into the hall, he threw it open, only to slam into what he thought at first was a brick wall. He stumbled back and lost his balance, but strong arms reached out and caught him before he could fall, again.
“Arch? I heard you screaming? What the heck is going on?” Cook said with worry and confusion on his face.
“OhmygoshCookIheardaloudbangfromthekitchenandthenIhearditagainandIcalledforyou--“
“Whoa, whoa! Slow down, I can’t understand a word you’re saying”
David took a deep breath and pointed to the kitchen, “I was looking at your pictures on the mantle when I heard a loud bang from the kitchen. I called for you, but you didn’t hear me or whatever. And then I heard it again and it was a lot louder, and I started to get freaked out, but you still couldn’t hear me. And I was about to come get you when I saw someone in your backyard and they ran back into the trees.” David took another deep breath and looked at Cook.
“What? You saw someone in my backyard?” When David nodded, Cook turned and pushed open the door to the living room, with David right behind him, and made his way toward the window. He pulled back the blinds and peered out.
“D-do you s-see anything?” David asked from his position right behind Cook.
“Oh my god!”
“W-w-what? Cook?”
Cook turned around and looked at David with a strange look on his face. His eyes widened as he spoke to David. “David.”
“Cook! W-what is it?”
“I…I forgot to turn on my sprinklers!” Cook broke out laughing. “Dude! You should see the look on your face!” Cook managed in between laughs. “That movie really has you spooked. You are actually seeing things now.”
David’s expression turned from one of fear to one of annoyance. “Cook, stop! I know what I--. Cook! Stop laughing!” Cook laughed even harder seeing David flailing his arms about like a child. “I’m serious! Listen to me! Dang it, Cook, stop laughing.”
“A-Arch! Dude!”Cook managed out as he erupted with more laughter.
“Hmph!” David turned around and grabbed his coat from the chair and walked towards the door.
“Wait, Arch, where’re you going?” Cook’s laughter finally managed to calm down.
“Back to the hotel. Take me home now!” David said without turning to look at Cook.
“Hold on, Arch, I was kidding! I didn’t mean to offend you or anything.” But David just opened the door and turned to leave. He didn’t get very far though because the second he turned to walk out, he nearly fell backwards in shock. Standing on the porch was a young woman, who looked to be about David’s age, staring right at him.
“Is… Jenny there?” the girl asked in a daunting tone.
“U-u-u-ummm…” David turned to look at Cook, who was instantly by his side. David decided to retake his position right behind Cook.
“Uh, I think you have the wrong house.” Cook said, looking at his watch. It was exactly midnight.
The girl just stood there, staring between Cook and David, who had his head peeking out from behind Cook. When she made eye contact with him, he quickly hid his head again. Cook reached for the switch for the porch light. When his fingers made contact with the minute, slender switch, he flipped it up, but the ensuing darkness remained, completely concealing most of the girls face.
After several moments of silence, the girl finally spoke up again, “You sure?”
Cook looked back at David with a strange look on his face. “Yeah. There’s no Jenny here.”
The girl looked at Cook for several more seconds before abruptly turning and walking down the steps and through the yard. She turned and walked down the middle of the street.
Cook shut the door and turned to David and said, “What was that all about? Maybe I should go after her, I don’t think a young girl like her should be walking around outside by herself at midnight.”
“Um, no, don’t go. She’ll be fine.” David walked over to the window when Cook chuckled. He peered out the window, and gasped. “Gosh! Cook, come here.”
Cook walked over to the window and looked out. When he saw what David was talking about, he gasped himself. “What is she doing?” Cook said. Outside, standing in the middle of the street, staring at the house, was the girl that was just at the door. She stood stock-still, gazing chillingly at the house. “Okay, I’m going to go talk to her.”
“What? No, you can’t.”
“Arch, people don’t just stand in the middle of the road like that, and she probably needs to get home. Just wait right here.” Cook walked back to the door and turned the lock.
“Cook wait!” Cook opened the door and started to walk outside, but suddenly stopped on the door frame.
“Cook?” David looked over the older man’s shoulder. There was no one in the middle of the street. Cook stepped out onto the porch and looked up and down the street. It was completely empty. Somewhere In the distance, a dark howled shrilly, adding a daunting air to the situation. He turned back and ambled into the house, shutting the door behind him.
“What’s going on Cook?”
“She must have gone home, I guess.”
David didn’t look convinced. He was about to argue, when suddenly a loud bang resounded from the kitchen, causing David to jump. Cook looked at David with a questioning look on his face, before he turned toward the kitchen door. David followed in his usual position.
Cook slowly pushed the door open and inched inside. The first thing he saw was the side door that leads out back. The glass on the door was cracked in several places. His eyes grew wide, and he hurriedly reached into his pocket for his phone, but came up empty. “Crap! I left my phone in the car. Arch, give me yours.” David reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone and handed it to Cook.
Cook took it and dialed a familiar number. When he finished, he put the phone to his ear and waited as the dial tone came up.
“Hey!”
“Mike! Good you answered. Listen--“
“It’s Mike. I can’t answer the phone right now, so leave me a message after the beep.” Mike’s answering machine told him.
“Damn it! Hey Mike, I’m using David’s phone, call me back as soon as you get this. It’s an emergency.” He hung up the phone and prepared to dial another number, when a message came up on the phone saying ‘battery low. Place on charger.’ And then the phone went black.
“Damn! Your phone’s dead.” He handed the phone back to David. “Do you have the charger?”
“Um, N-no. It’s at the hotel.”
“Here, I’ll just use the land line.” Cook said and he went over to the counter and picked it up off the hook. He put it up to his ear and dialed a number. But there was no dial tone. He hung up and tried again. Still no tone.
He grasped the cord to see if it had come undone. He looked down at the cord in his hand, and his mouth fell open.
The cord was cut.
“What’s the matter Cook?” David asked with evident apprehension in his voice.
Cook quickly turned around when David tried to see around him, grabbing David and pulled him into a hug.
“C-c-cook? W-what--?”
“David,” and that scared David the most because he couldn’t remember the last time Cook had called him by his first name, “Let’s go upstairs.”
“W-w-why?”
Cook pulled David towards the kitchen door. He pushed the door open and nearly dropped David when he came face to face to what waited for them. On the opposite wall, written in big red letters, was the sentence, “You’re gonna die!” David screamed.

Michael Johns moved through the crowd of people who were dancing and made his way to his kitchen. He pushed the door open and made his way over to a girl who was rummaging through the refrigerator.
“Hey Carly! How you like the house?” Mike said as he grabbed a glass from the cabinet.
“Hey Mike, where’s the beers?” Carly said with a smile on her face as she turned to her friend, “Oh and I love the house! You and Stacy has good taste.”
“Thanks.” He said as he turned back to the counter and opened a cooler, “Here ya go.” He handed Carly a beer. “Right, so um, have you seen Dave around? He was suppost to be here like twenty minutes ago.”
Carly’s face lit up. “Dave’s coming? Oh, this’ll be great! I haven’t seen him since Archie’s birthday party back in December!”
“Yeah, Archie’s coming too. Apparently they were hanging out tonight and when I called Dave, they were on their way home. He said he would change clothes and be here in ten minutes. That was half an hour ago.”
“Archie’s coming too! I can’t wait to see him. I’m sure they’ll be here any time then.” She practically skipped to the door. “I’m gonna go wait for them.” She called as she pushed the door open and made her way back through the throng of bodies.
Right as the door shut behind her, the side door burst open and Jason and Chikezie walked in, with guilty looks on their faces. They were carrying a large plastic bag full of colorful balls.
“Hey Mike! Get over here and help us. Kristy and Sy are out front.” Jason said.
“We gonna get ‘em with these water balloons.” Chikezie said, and he and Jason broke out laughing. “Come on man.”
“Gimme some mate.” Mike said and grabbed some water balloons out of the bag, and then all three ran out the door.
