Been a while since I've done one of these but here goes. What I've been up to lately:

Gaming: I don't even remember what all I've played since my last post, but here are some of them: Persona 4 Arena (loved story mode and enjoyed the game, suck beyond belief at online play because everyone just destroys me), Devil Summoner 2 (loved it, especially loved new character Nagi but I still think the first game was better), Nocturne (daaaang it was hard and it made me nostalgic for the online SMT game, which I no longer play, but the dark, apocalyptic atmosphere was awesome), and finally, Virtue's Last Reward. Gotta say, it surprised me a lot, even though I guessed at some of the basic plot points pretty early on. A couple of the twists were soooo clever, especially because there were little hints here and there (a couple of which I actually thought were translation errors at first; once the twists were revealed, those little lines that didn't sound quite right suddenly made perfect sense). Akane has further cemented herself as one of my favorite video game ladies. She's the best example I can think of for a female character who is incredibly strong and badass without being physically strong. Also, I have such a crush on Sigma. And Tenmyouji. That's right.

I'm also playing the Walking Dead game. I've finished four of the five "episodes". I think this game needs to be thrust into the faces of everyone who has ever said that games are childish or immature or somehow inferior to other forms of storytelling. It so perfectly captures what makes video games a unique medium for stories: the fact that you can interact with games. The entire story of the Walking Dead game is shaped around the choices you make, in such an amazing way that you honestly feel like you're interacting with the story. And speaking of, I actually like the story and characters in this game better than those of the tv show. I would take Lee over Rick any day. Maybe it's because I get to make Lee's choices and decide how he reacts to things (and therefore have a say in his character development), but he's become one of my favorite video game characters. He just seems so genuine and human. He's not a super hero. You'll never see him wade into a zombie horde and kick ass like a boss (the closest you'll get to that is the beyond awesome Molly, who is basically a ninja chick who makes even Daryl's badassery from the show seem pitiful by comparison). Lee is just a guy trying to survive and protect a sweet little girl along the way. And yes, Clementine is adorable. Enough to make me wanna pop out a kid of my own. I'm completely serious here.

Also! I have vowed to work my way through the Tales series this year. I actually planned to do that last year, and I played Tales of Phantasia (and loved it) but then I got distracted by a lot of new games coming out (FFXIII-2, P4A, VLR) and just, you know, life. I just want to play all the games that were released in English. I have all of them except Tales of Destiny, so I broke over and downloaded the rom. And I freaking hate roms. But ToD is like a hundred bucks used and, yeah, no way that's happening. Anywho, I'm working on playing it right now. Not too far into it but i like it a lot so far. Plays almost exactly like ToP so it was really easy to get back into the groove of things. Just can't help laughing at the crazy 80's hair everyone has.

Anime: Oh God where do I start? I finally started doing what a lot of you have been doing for years: follow anime series as they air in Japan. Since I hate watching stuff on a computer screen, I'm pretty tickled with Crunchyroll and Hulu, since they air a lot of series the same day their air in Japan and I can watch them on my tv. Right now, I'm currently following Zetsuen no Tempest, Psycho-Pass, Magi, and Shin Sekai Yori. Of these, Psycho-Pass is probably my favorite because the episodes always get me excited. Plus it has some incredibly sexy characters and one of the best ending themes I've heard in years ("Monster With No Name"). Second fave would be Zetsuen no Tempest, just because I'm a sucker for doomed romances (as I've said before) and a romance that ended in a horrifically tragic way is at the center of the backstory for the whole series. Shin Sekai Yori is a total mind screw but it keeps me guessing and has consistently surprised me. It's one of the darkest and most chilling anime I've ever seen, wrapped up in a pretty package with cute characters.

As for shows I finished, there was the phenomenal Sword Art Online (I seriously wish everyone would watch this it is so amazing OMG), K (or K Project or whatever you want to call it), which had probably the most fanservice (for guys and girls) I've ever seen in a single show, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, which worked well as a comedy but not so much as a romance (a little too much "rape attempts are romantic!" for me), Tsuritama, which was the cutest, most feel-good show ever, Inu x Boku SS, which actually worked well as a comedy and a romance (and a tragedy, holy crap that manga...), and Another, which could easily be an anime version of the Whispering Corridors series. Oh, and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, which I am hesitant to recommend because the first few episodes are so crappy and fall into the "super annoying harem" category. If the descriptions for the later episodes didn't sound so good, I would have given the series up. Thankfully, the later episodes were beautiful and heartbreaking.

Other: Let's see, I'm still following most of the comics I used to talk about, with the addition of Saga (probably the best written comic I've come across besides Morning Glories) and Revival (a pretty neat snowy horror comic). I also finally got into the Walking Dead tv show. I hated the first season, found the second season interesting (but hated so many things about it) and am currently LOVING the third season. This is almost totally due to Michonne being a badass.

And that's pretty much it for now.
