Keisha and i went to the Family Values tour on tuesday...
Walls of Jericho - Thrash/hardcore
the opening band kicked ass. they were heavy, sounded good, and were just overall a good band
Bullets and Octane - Wannabe goth-rock/Manson clone
when you take a decent group of people wanting to play thrash, and combine them with a guy that thinks he's Manson, this is what you get. mismatched music with corny oh-so-suicidal lyrics. and a lot of bragging about nothing. the vocalist was a complete joke.
Deadsy - Imdustrial Goth Rock
pretty original sound. it's like Dr. Who goes to planet goth. kinda spooky, and well written
10 Years - Boring staind-clone rock
a lot of people loved them, for some reason. these same people probably have posters of staind in every room of their house. nothing original at all, radio-rock.
Bury Your Dead - Metal/hardcore
i missed most of this set, pissing and getting something to eat. they sounded good from afar, and the one song i actually saw them play sounded really good. one of the heaviest bands there
Dir En grey - Japanese Metal
Keisha liked them a lot. i'm not real wild about Japanese rock in general, but they had a heavier sound than Gackt and the vocalist was incredibly good.
Flyleaf - more Staind-ish rock
one of those staind clones that people think is original just because the vocalist is female.
Stone Sour - Hard Rock/Metal
naturally, Stone Sour kicked ass. Corey got the crowd involved with everything, even pasuing during one song to make sure people were singing along. when he realized they weren't, he told us to sing this time and repeated that part of the song. of all the sets, they got the most energy out of people
Deftones - Hard Rock or something
i almost fell asleep. i'm not saying they were bad, but somethign about their songs felt more like a lulliby. lots of slow, high-pitched mini-solos. i don't have much else to say about them
KoRn - Rock/Metal/Industrial/whatever else i missed
obviously the band who started the tour was good. they played a good mix of old favorites and newer stuff, finishing it off with almost everyone's favorite (or best-recognized) song "Blind", which is saying a lot since it isn't one of their radio songs. good mix-up of songs, lots of cheering when he brought out the bagpipes, because we all knew he was gonna play "Shoots and Ladders." and they played Twist, which i'd also really wanted to hear. Stone Sour and KoRn were worth waiting through all the other stuff.
