long ago, never mind how long, there was this lunch meat called chicken roll. other than bologna, it was the cheapest thing you could get. and like bologna it was a collection of random meat parts, fat, spices & you probably don't want to know what else. if i recall it was the weaver company (makers of other, better, chicken products) that produced it. they went out of business awhile ago.
since it was cheap, it was something we got whenever we needed lunch meat. my mom would often get the bare minimum for 3 or 4 people (depending if it was just her & us 2 kids, or dad was with us), which was probably a fourth of a pound, & a bag of sandwich rolls or cheap white bread and that was lunch. or even dinner, depending on the situation. this was usually when we were away from home & it was cheaper than fast food.
last week i smelled the random spices of a neighbor's dinner & it reminded me so much of chicken roll that i could practically taste it. i googled & apparently tyson bought the company and started making chicken roll in 2011, but it's not anywhere i've seen.
