apparently carole nelson douglas passed. i say "apparently" because wikipedia has a date of oct. 2021 for when she passed, but googleing her name gives me her obituary as a suggestion which only had a random mystery book reader blog that mentions it and that's it.
if true, this leaves rita mae brown as the last author who's "cozy mystery" books (the mrs. murphy series) i spent most of this early part of the 21st century looking for at every flea market, yard/garage sale, thrift store & used books store i came across.
the other three were the cat who.... series by lilian lackson braun (passed in 2011), the sarah kelling series by charlotte macleod (passed 2005) & the amelia peabody books by elizabeth peters (passed in 2013). i recommend them all, except for braun's like 6-8 or so books. which got very formulaic after a while.
i've discovered other authors to fill the void (not necessary "cozy mysteries") the roma sub rosa series by steven saylor, the sano ichro books by laura joh rowland, and the sarah booth delaney series by carolyn haines
this reminds me i have like 3-4 books in douglas' midnight louie series to read. booklender doesn't have them & i don't go out thrifting any more, so i may never finish the series. it's just as well, i was reading out of order and wasn't sure what was going in about a 1/4 of the time any way. and it's been so long since i've read one, i've forgotten what all the plot threads were.
