 christmas...why? i am honestly curious. what do you believe and why? is it just a day to cherish and spend with family? is it really the birth day of jesus? do you celebrate the winter solstice and if so how? tell me what you believe and why? tell me your absolutly favorite holiday tradition. i want to know. know my friends know my quiet readers

My family celebrates christmas. Why? I've never really thought about why except that that's how I grew up, that's how I was raised. My entire family, immediate & extended celebrates it. We all have different churches we belong to. I don't personally go that often, I believe you don't have to be in a church to worship, I can do that at home.

The only tradition I can think of is that the family on my Dad's side gets together every Thanksgiving & every Christmas. When my grandma was still alive we would always go to her house. Know that she's gone, we alternate between houses. This year we'll go to my one of my aunt & uncle's & usually have a theme for our food. Like one year, we did mexican, another we did italian, some years we do just soup & sandwiches. We always have spam salad sandwiches because my grandma would always make them for our get togethers. I think it's how we keep the her memory there & since my uncle past away a couple of years ago, it reminds us of him too. We also make rice krispy bars w/the peanut butter & corn syrup topped with melted chocolate & butterscotch chips to remember him at our get togethers too. Those were his favorites. It's getting harder now that all of us grandkids are older & are married with children. We have our x-mas this year the sunday after new years. That way everyone can be there.

that is so great. thanks for sharing. i really have to tell you though that if you ever approach me with a spam salad sandwich i will run the other way ahahaha. i DO appreciate where that tradition came from though and how you continue to cary it on.

LOL! I grew up eating them so it's normal for me but that's usually the reaction to the sandwiches.

So that's a no on bringing them with me when I come down to visit you. :p
