ball and goodbye

The Hills Road Class of 2006 graduation ball was last night, and it was so wonderful.
We all went down to Sam's house to get ready before and had a bottle of champagne in the garden and took pictures, and then our taxi and transport arrived which was... spantacular. She had hired a taxi mini bus AND (use your imagination because this bit is hard to explain) a motorcycle-trike-type-thing. Like, imagine a Harley welded to the front of a Jeep, all green, no walls, just seats and metal. HELL YES. Me, Sam, Verity and Emily all got to ride on it. Man, we were zooming down the motorway at 70MPH on that beast, and we got ALL the looks when we arrived. It was some pretty hot shit.
Actually, the whole night was some pretty hot shit. The girls looked splendiferous, and the guys looked swanky (in the good way, not the sleezy way).
The whole thing was out at this place called Abbington hall out in the countryside by a lake. We had a boufet tent, a live band and dance tent, a disco hall, three bars, a bouncy castle, one of those giant inflatable slides, dodge-em's, and a bunch of other sort of fair-ground things. It was so great. Almost everyone looked loverly. There were a few moochers and shmucks, but just about everyone put in that extra mile and it showed. I was wearing a tux with a black waist-coat with silver sort of swirling pattern on it and a matching bow-tie. No-one got trashed, but we all got wonderfully tipsy and drunk.
When it ended at midnight though, we all went back to Sam's to continue the after-party. Which ended up sort of not being an after-party, more just us all sitting in a circle in her garden on garden chairs, drinking some more wine and eating snackers. Well, at least until some other people showed up. Her cousin Max came around after the prom with two other guys who were also there, and things got a little akward.
One of the guys he brought was Emily's ex, and another was this fucking wanker named Imran. Imran is very homophobic. There were two gay couples staying at Sam's that night, including me and Law. He started making some comments that were pretty unnaceptable and made everyone feel really akward, until he made one quite overtly homophobic comment directed at me--at which point Law voiced everyon's thoughts by telling him in no uncertain terms that if he didn't shut up, he'd deck him. Now, Imran isn't exactly short, but... well, Law's 6'5" and none-too weak.
That was pretty much the one down-part of the night.
Once they left too, we moved inside because we were getting eaten by bugs and watched Shaun of the Dead until like 3 or 4am.

In the morning, Sam's parents had made a massive breakfast feast for those 10 of us that spent the night, which was really really nice of them.

But then the time came for us to leave. Me and Law and to go home and shower and wash our clothes--he's going to the Perse ball tonight--but not before saying goodbye.

I almost cried then. All the girls are going on a week-long, all-girl holiday in Tunisia and I'm leaving before they get back. So I had to say good-bye to all of them and there were hugs and kisses and more hugs. But the good news is that Sophie will be coming to visit me this summer, and then next summer, Emily and Katie and Sam and maybe Lou might all be coming to visit as well. And of course, I'll be back here for Christmas as well, most probably.

It's been an exhausting two days, but fun. I'm going to miss my school, and I'm going to miss my friends. I don't have pictures from the ball yet, but as soon as I do, I will post them.
